Guest lightnix Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 The title says it all really. I'm looking for those little black "bungee cord" type things, which are about 150mm long with a small plastic hook on one end. I need some to stretch a banner out in a frame, which is how is see them most often used. Does anybody know where to get them and what their proper name is ?
Chris_H Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 I don't know th proper name for them but I'm sure you can pick them up at either a DIY store (BnQ) or possibly a Car parts and bits and bobs sales place (Halfords). Chris PS, our tech teacher also calls them small bungee things, hope this helps
MikeR Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 I'm not sure what you mean exactly but being literal if you're after short bungee straps with a hook on each end you should be able to get them from a motorcycle kit shop. The sort of place that sells helmets and leathers etc. Theyre generally used for strapping bits n bobs to the bike - though as I say this may totally irrelevant and unhelpful. EDIT Having just reread your original reply I think Im wasting your time. The ones Im talking about are probably closer to a foot n 'arf long or so.
Dave Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 Nick, I think Flints have what you're looking for here. I also once did a outdoor gig where some scaffolders built the stage. They covered the back and sides with polythene sheeting, and it looked like what you see on a building site in a city. The relevant bit is that they used small bungee loops to attach the polythene to the scaff. The bungees had a spike instead of a hook, which you pushed through the polythene and turned 90 degrees so it wouldn't come back out. I've never seen a source for these - can anyone enlighten me? Dave
Guest lightnix Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 Thank you, Dave. That's exactly what I was after. Ahhh... the power of the Blue Room :(
chris Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 Yes flints do them but as with all things flintish they are a smadgeto expensive.
Pete McCrea Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 Heard them called Spanfix(es), but I don't know if this is the true name fro them. Try Here right at the bottom, item code 2100A
Dave Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 Yes flints do them but as with all things flintish they are a smadgeto expensive. Can you suggest an alternative source? Flints are certainly cheaper than whatever Paul is offering (which might not be the same thing).
Guest lightnix Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 Yes flints do them but as with all things flintish they are a smadgeto expensiveAt 50p each (+VAT) and a requirement for just 25 of the things, I don't really think they are going to break my budget. But then again, maybe that's because I don't work in Theatre :(
chris Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 I think lightnix has hit the subsidised nail that I found on the floor behind the gaslight fixings on the head there.
la grande homme Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 beware of spanfix loops rom flints... they took about a week to get my order (admitedaly ordering 500 not 25) to me. Get your order in early... :(
Guest lightnix Posted April 27, 2004 Posted April 27, 2004 ...a week to get my order (admitedaly ordering 500 not 25) to me.They probably didn't have that many in stock and had to get them in themselves, hence the delay. If someone ordered 500 of something off me they'd probably have to wait a few days, to be honest ( I'd need at least one day to recover from the shock, for a start :P ) Anyway, I put my online order in on Sunday afternoon and they arrived this morning; so it's "Hats Off" to Flints from me - great service, chaps !
