Barney
The original Svoboda units had a square of asbestos under each lamp base. These can be taken out (and disposed of safely) without too much problem. If you want replacement lamp bases, the fixtures take screw fitting lamps (E40 base). The lamps themselves are Crown Silver types, reference 566B (250W 24V GES-E40). HTHBarney
LBLight
Hello Just saw your posting. As I am from the manufacturer I checked with our factory. According to the information received from our head of production, in all the years working in ADB we have never used any asbestos as insulation plate on the SVOBODA or any of our other fixtures. But there have been a number of copies of the SVOBODA fixture made in different countries. They may have used asbestos, or the fixtures are so old that this was used in some far back past we do not know anymore. In the 70's the Czech Scenographer Mr. Svoboda appointed ADB to produce the fixture he had designed working in Prague in the theatre. You can find a picture of the elements used for the lamp assembly. In case you need any parts, please contact ADB or one of our distribution partners in your area directly. (follow the link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/felixofnossegem/2865307940/) Today, ADB still produces the SVOBODA batten in 9 and 10 lamp versions. The 9 lamp version is normaly used in Europe for 230 Volt applications, the 10 lamp version is used on shows in the 120 V countries and run on 2 circuits, or in countries where the standard voltage is 240 volts) with best regardsLarry
