adamcoppard
I have a very small budget (£100 or so) for a couple of days / week hire of something like a Martin MX4. I need two or more (that hang from T-Bars or floor) to provide a disco style music effect, that works itself to the music (I really don't wanna programme over 4 hours of music into our normal Alcora Zero 88 desk). So any ideas on what other lights can do what I'm after, where to source from (I need them in South Somerset), and what kinda cost?
niclights
Something like Abstract Twisters or Gladiators work very well for this.

Sound In Gloucestershire
might help to explain exactly what type of effect you are looking for, the MX4 being a £600 scanner yet you seem to be interested in Twister 4's w hich is a goboflower effects and the revolutions which are a barrel effect if the moonflowers are suitable, id buy a pair of Acme Magic Gobo's, £135 a pair delivered and includes a small hand controller, so that you can strobe and change their colour if you require (or just leave them to it) Youd have to make sure that the 100w lamp is adequate though
adamcoppard
We are a group within the school organising disco's etc. for Business. However, me being the only technician on the team has been left to organise sound /lighting. What we really need (and cheaply) is the HIRE (I don't have the money to buy, and the school won't either) of a pair (or four) lights that can be controlled by the beat of the music, without me worrying about them. They need to be T-Bar mounted, and will go in tandem with 8 Par Can's (manually controlled by me for the 4 hours). What we are really looking for is some form of lights that move with a beat of the music, them selves, with some kind of effect. (I have never strayed into Disco lighting, I'm more stage sound and ligthing).
niclights
Any of the 'moonflower' effects will be perfect for this. They give a large spread, are colourful and spin/change colour to the music. They are small with no fragile mirrors exposed and they are relatively cheap, thus making them cheap to hire. I recommend the Abstract's because in my experience they have the best sound-to-light, but really any of these type effects will do. You should easily be able to get four if not more for your budget. Hang, plug in and go.
J Pearce
Datamoon/moonflowers etc seem to go for between £15-20 list for a day. Well inside your budget, dead easy to use and the punters seem to like them.
