Good point about risk assessment I see your point that the fact that I am bothering to use a zip tie show that there must be some risk in my mind. There is no risk so I surpose it must be the fact of habbit that I ALWAYS have a secondary attachment of some sort whether a safty chain/bond or in this case a zip tie which clearly there is no need for one.

I always get a bit worried when people do things out of habit without knowing why they are doing them. Especially when H&S is involved - accidents can happen that way.

Firstly I thought there was laws saying there has to be secondary attachments for lights above peoples heads under health and safety?

That is a myth (but there's a lot of people in theatres who believe it). Ever seen a chandelier suspended by more than one chain? I haven't, and I've seen more than my fair share.

Also risk assessment has to be done for every gig dosn't it?

Not strictly. You can do a generic risk assessment that is applicable to multiple situations (provided of course that nothing is materially different). Hence the importance of knowing why a particular H&S practice exists. If your situation differs from that which was considered when the practice was created, the risks could well be different and you might need to take a different approach. Fortunately, a lot of the risks involved in theatres will be the same for every show.

And this is just the process of checking for known risks and doing somthing about it I once heard that even edges of a rug had to be gaffaed down on satge once at school!!! Which is a bit OTT as no one in there right mind would be able to trip over it (unless drunk!!!)

I wouldn't want to comment without knowing the full situation and reasoning for that decision. However, it could also be that the rug might slide about on a smooth floor, which would present a hazard. And what if people were moving around on stage in very low light conditions?

By the way, Scenemaster, are you ever going to reveal your source for amazingly cheap PAR lamps to us ? You know, the ones you mentioned in this thread a few weeks ago.

are there some cheap places to get P56 lamps (lower tha £13 inc vat as this is the current price I pay) :P
After all, you can't expect people to give you all this help if you're not going to do something for them in return. It's a two way thing in here, you see.

So go on, old chap, give us a clue. If not, a name and 'phone number will do

I have a funny feeling I know who it is, but I shall let Mr Scenemaster reply first and see if it confirms my thoughts :P

Terralec! There arround £12 somthing for an Omnilux (spelt right?) PAR56 f,m,s lamp types. Good lamp!, lasts about a year in a studio where every lesson gets turned on for 30-40 mins or so and thats 30 lessons a week (mayby a few less)! Thats a lot of hours a year. I even have some 1.5 year old lamps still working so it not just cheap and nasty. Anyway sorry for not revealing this earlyer I thought I had. Par64 about £21 which I think is quite good, never brought one though so can't say anything about the quality.

The pricing is an option you can select on the first 'Products' page, either good old pounds or those new fangled euro wotsits.

As for how he does it, I don't know but John has been in the industry a long while.

You might want to read up on their discount policy as well :D
