At the risk of sounding obvious, contact them! If the fresnels are in a hard to rig place, or similar, they may not like the idea of having to re-rig it all after your gone. Some venues have fixed FOH for this reason, so if this is the case, don't be disappointed, it's pretty standard practice.

As for replacing LX desks, I don't know of many venues who'd have a problem with you unplugging the DMX from theirs and plugging it into yours!

As long as you remember to put it back as you found it

also would inhouse crews interefere with us?

If you were a house technician, and a 13 year old came into your venue and started climbing up your ladders, rigging your lanterns and plugging them into your dimmers, you'd want to keep a pretty close eye on them, wouldn't you?

As others have said, Ben, you need to be a bit more diplomatic. The way to get on with a house crew is to work with them, and not get on their bad side straight away by suggesting that their presence is 'interfering' with your work. After all, it's their venue, not yours - they know the place inside out, they know the equipment, they know the infrastructure, they know what's possible and what's not, and (please don't take this the wrong way, it's just a statement of fact) it's quite possible that they've been working in the theatre business since you were wearing nappies.

I don't mean this to sound discouraging in any way - we've all got to start somewhere and it's good that you're getting the chance to get involved in stuff like this at such a tender age. But you have to realise that the fact that you are so young means, if anything, that you have to be even more diplomatic and discrete than other people when dealing with venue crews, otherwise they're simply not going to take you seriously.

I completly agree; The In house techs can be so helpful- your working relationship with them can make or break a show (it really can!!).

Respect works two ways; You give them respect; you will earn respect.

I'd personally use Bright* in Taunton - ok not near Southampton but the price is right (£75 for a week off the top of the noggin) and the service is v.good.

Other than that I can't think of any of my locals who stock a Fat Frog. The only place I can think who might is Stagecraft in Salisbury (just down the road from Southampton). Failing that you could always pick one up from a hire co on the way down to the venue or something.

They don't have a website. Their phone number is (01823) 481011 or you can e-mail Jason at info@brightbluelight.com

A Fat Frog is £75 according to my catalogue just to confirm.

They do pretty much everything LX wise, and have got (as far as I know) got a bit of Sound, Rigging etc.

I've never had any issues with service Bright* supply, so I doubt that'll be an issue!

It might be worth contacting member 'Dave' who will probably be able to help you out with a Frog if not a whole rig. Comes highly recommended!
