As Reverb used to be sound control (or at least, part of it) do we think this clearance is simply a clearance of old sound control stock?

The "20% off all stock" offer is one that Sound Control rolled out in the last few months of its' trading before it went under.

I do wonder why they are still using the sound control domain name when it has now been tarnished slightly by a company who went under. Surely a "reverb" domain name would be more suitable and wouldn't cost a lot for a decent sized setup. They could perhaps then link the sound control domain to theirs.

Reverb are looking to be doing things the right way, I haven't had much dealings but I've spoken to the directors, and they seem to have there heads screwed on, and I've been in to a couple of the stores, and the guys in there really seem to be on the ball, they used to work in the same stores when in was sound control, and could see the problems they had, and seem to be sorting it out.

But as far as things go, they are still a little inexperienced purely because they are new.

So "buy the ticket, take the ride" if anyone has any good or bad experiences with them, please post on here.

As much as I hate to do this on my first post, my first purchase from this retailer since the takeover is not a good one. In fact, I am considering Trading Standards. I bought a Jackson DK1 from their Leicester branch, which they reduced from £1799 to £999. I too got that "20% off" email, and when I asked one staff member, he was telling me it's selected items only. LIE. After going off to his invisable manager, he accepted £800. He waited til I paid up and got my receipt. Then he tells me he doesn't have the case and that I would I have to pay for it because A) they sold it's case to another shopper who didn't buy a DK1, B) due to the price reduction. I refused. He agreed to give a temporary Hiscox case. When I finally get the guitar home and wipe all the gunk off, there are discrepancies in the wood on the back of the neck, and the dot fret markers are not flush with the binding like they're supposed to be. I took the guitar back, which now has a ding in the front of the body (it rattled about in that case), and asked for a refund. I was fobbed off. He agreed the manufacturing fault ie dots not flush were unnacceptable but refused the refund. No matter what I told him, such as I bought the guitar from Reverb, NOT Jackson, NOT Fender UK, he was having none of it. I guess I should've demanded a manager and quoted the Sale & Supply of Goods Act. Instead, he insisted it had to go back to Fender who would repair or replace the neck or the guitar, and give me the Jackson case that it should've come with. I've been more than tollerant with this BS, and in 2 weeks I want a result, or I am gunning for a manager, and if needs be, Trading Standards to get my refund. :) :D :D       . I was happier when Sound Control still had their Nottingham store. Much better service, better deals. They even had staff who could do decent setups for guitars.

S/C in notts were good, I shopped there alot. I did my work experience there when it was carlsbro many years ago!

This sounds bad mate, I should follow this right to the top, sounds looks this particular store is another 'fob you off' retailer who don't give a damn about the paying customer.

Get in touch with trading standards, did you pay cash or credit card?

You got the £1700 price down to £800. Did you actually ASK if the case was in the deal?

They are going to say you had a £900 reduction, and bought a shop soiled, demo'd guitar, complete with small defects.

You are right in that it is their problem - however, if they think they did the deal based on the current state of the instrument when sold - my guess is that the offer to send it back to the manufacturer could be a way to get it replaced. I'm sure they would counter any claim you make with the fact that they didn't have the correct case, and you accepted it in one not quite right and should have taken care of it. I know that's not your perspective - but if they stick to their guns, I will escalate to the small claim court where they will say how good a deal you got. The magistrate may well agree. Trading standards might help, but in this case it could be your word against theirs. They're not actually called that anymore, and you have to access their services via a centralised web site now.

Best of luck - but I reckon you've lost most of your rights by not sorting these things out before accepting it - and you don't hand over cash for something of this value - you didn't, did you? Credit card companies are quite good at sorting these things. Much might hinge on the wording of the receipt. Does it say ex-demo or shop soiled? Does it say guitar and case? Unless they said you get a case, they've not actually promised one, have they?

Yes, they have promised a Jackson case. The fact that they didn't disclose it being sold off to another customer until after I made the purchase is unnacceptable. I was very clear in that the Hiscox would be a temporary replacement. Nowhere on the receipt does it say "solied/ex-demo". They told me it was priced that way because they couldn't sell it, nor did they disclose any defects prior to the sale.

Did you not play it/look at it before you bought it? Surely these defects would have been obvious?

I wasn't allowed to try it first. Of all the 2 years that guitar has been sitting there, it's always had a "do not touch" card placed between the strings and fretboard. I'm quite happy for them to replace the neck or the whole guitar and give me the case it should've come with, at no extra charge. This has been agreed by the staff member. If it still comes back without any of this, I'll ask for alternative goods.

The reason many people do not shop on-line is because they cannot play the things. I'm amazed you spent so much money on an instrument you might have got home and hated. I know of no music shops that won't let you play the instruments - that's what they do? They might ask you to remove your belt, or put a cloth on your lap - but how on earth could you tell if you liked it?
