steve h
I have had a worry for a while about the showpix, but I thought I would wait til I see one before I said anything. I caught the press thing at plasa yesturday which saw them in full flow. I have to say that I was impressed, really quite an immense piece of kit. However My niggle continued to niggle. At 10 paces they look awesome. However im sure they will mainly be used on the larger events where people have the money to get them, which means that most of the people there will not be at 10 paces. As a wash they are incredible, and the colour tone is much nicer than most LED products I have seen. I just cant see the point of the whole animation side of things, escpecially seeing as in extended mode your at 451 DMX channels Just wondering if anyone else had any thoughts on this? chris_litz
Hi Steve, Please keep in mind that the extended protocol is an option so you can have control over each of the individual 127 LED's. Standard protocol uses 70 channels and is best when letting the nEcho software covert your images or videos. Here are some more examples of Showpix in use other than what you saw at the show: http://www.highend.com/products/LED/pixela...x_in_ACTION.asp Did you happen to see the Studiopix while you were at Plasa? timmeh
Hi Some products are made because they have a clear purpose; others are made because someone thinks they have found a hole in the market. The Showpix, I feel, while being a bit 'out there' in both design, functionality and appearance, will possibly have a purpose; it's up to the more forward-thinking LDs to see if they can either utilise its features or universally can it. Only time will tell, but hats off to High-End for risking capital on an interesting venture. Incidentally every man and their dog is starting to look at, or develop, moving-head LED fixtures; High End have just jumped the market and released the biggest one there is likely ever to be. All the bestTimmeh
gnomatron
hmm... so they look nice in photos, and therefore will on telly big market for that! There must be an element of "why not" as well - if you're going to make a big fat moving head LED washlight, why not have modes where you an address the LEDs individually and do video stuff? steve h
I can see the point for TV there, and also for the more adventurous LD. And it is nice to see the market pushed thats for sure. I still think that people are more likely to want to go for a LED video screen in most situations where a showpix could go
