Solstace
Hi there Little puzzle is gnawing away at me today... At about 9.45 every Sunday morning, our TVOne box (used as a luma-keyer, scaler and switcher) has a random glitch. Either the image gets very jerky for about 5-10 seconds, then clears, or else the box stops sending a signal completely for about 5-10 seconds. The setup is as follows: MacBook Pro laptop, feeding 1080i50 over DVI fed to DVI input 1 on the TVOne box.Composite PAL live video feed coming into Composite input 1 on the TVOne box. Inside the TVOne box, DVI input 1 is set as sync source.Luma-keying set up so that black area on the laptop output can have the composite feed keyed through it.EDID is generated by the TVOne box for the laptop.EDID for display devices is ignored.Output resolution of TVOne box should be set to automatically follow the DVI input. During the glitch condition, the box shows no error or unusual activity on the panel display. If the box stops sending a signal, all display devices (hanging off a Gefen 1:10 HDMI DA) show "No Signal". Any ideas?
paulears
The time thing is interesting. Assuming that there is nothing local to the kit that is connected/disconnect at this time, and the kit otherwise works perfectly, I'd look at mains interference or RF interference. Up until two years ago - I had severe RF breakthrough for ten minutes or so, every Sunday morning - only some bits of kit seemed prone, but I could hear odd tones, and warbling noises. It turned out that the Fire Station next door, which also carried the Police system carried out what they called 'Bay Changing' - switching at a specific time to another set of equipment for redundancy/duplication reasons. On Sunday mornings, the Fire Service tested their paging network and the problem was with the combination of one of the Police racks and the Fire equipment. So the combination of the Police and Fire both doing something at the same time was causing the problem. I put some of their aerials up a few years ago, so knew who to talk to - but he said the equipment was being de-commissioned anyway and would be switched off soon. As soon as it was - the problem went away. Is your building near any sources of RF - strong RF can do very strange things to video kit. Any chance this is the problem? Something happening at the same time does suggest the problem is external - finding it will be interesting. I hope you can sort it.
Solstace
Thanks Paul! What's interesting is that the time mentioned happens to link rather closely with statistics for many of our other electrical/technical failures, some of which I think I've mentioned in the Sound forums. The times are either 0945ish or 1745ish on Sundays. Never midweek. Guess among many other issues I might indeed have an RF/EMI problem, as I first thought nearly a year ago when this stuff started happening to various things around the building! I've been here all day now and since this morning's post, other than the morning glitch that prompted me to post in the first place (I'm sure the BR clock is out!), the system's through the day and not missed a beat! Solstace
Sorry to post again effectively in reply to myself, but I thought I ought to post a potential solution, just in case anyone is following... So this morning I'm thinking more "outside the box" than usual. As I set the system up this morning, it occurred to me that our 1:10 HDMI DA has a system reset button on the front of it. Which is at knee or bag-level. So the thought occurs that some operators might start getting themselves comfortable a few minutes before or during the service, and end up nudging the reset button either with their knee directly, or with the presentation laptop bag. Moved the bags and made sure not to get too comfy, and so far no issues... Here's hoping this situation does indeed need the "human" solution rather than a technical one! It doesn't explain the sound and other electrical issues that tend to happen at around that same time- but nobody ever said everything that happens at the same time has to be a coincidence, right? UPDATE 19:45 21/9/2008 Nope! Morning was clear - but again at 17:45 and 18:45 this evening we had a complete loss of output for about 10 seconds! Back to square 1, I suppose...
