andylights
I have always found my Pearl disk drive to be a little unreliable and as a result keep multiple backups of important stuff. Just recently things seem to be getting worse, with new disk related problems occuring... "can not initialize disk system" being a new one and corrupted show names being another. I'm going to check the desk internally as soon as it's off the van, but I'm assuming I will need to replace the drive. Can anyone recommend a suitable replacement please; preferabley with a CPC part number (just so I don't actually have to do any work myself-apart from undo a few screws) Cheers, Andy
berry120
Floppy drives do of course wear out, but there's the possibility it might be dirty - you can get drive cleaners if you wanted to give that a try. http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Module...88&DOY=30m8
niclights
Hi Andy, Sorry I didn't reply to your post in the Avo forum. Didn't have time to search then, but I see no reason why any normal 3.5" internal floppy won't work. I would be inclined to replace rather than clean, esp. as it's not necessarily much more expensive: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/74629
avdavesound
hi andy, same thing happened to my azure, just pull out the drive and get the make and model number off it. go on to ebay and get it for a few pounds.
Kopy
Yep - any old internal 3.5 inch floppy drive will work. Find one in any computer shop for about 5 pounds.
Al Cain
Hi, You could ring Avo and ask them to send you a new one - after paying of course- that would be my choice.... HTH Alex
andylights
Thanks for the replies... CPC had the same one as ebuyer but at twice the price, Maplin had a choice but a few pounds more and not in stock at my local branch. So Nic's suggestion (which helped me achieve my goal of not doing any leg work :D ) was spot on at £6.86 inc VAT and p+p . Sorted.
