mbthegreat
Had a little search but couldn't really find anything all the useful. So... I'm currently designing a school show for November, and would like to use our 10 Source Four PARs as a backlight / toplight wash. I would ideally like to put scrollers in front of each of these, however the cost of hiring the 10 Rainbow Pros will put me about £200 over budget (budget is reasonable, but almost defiantly fixed). Couple of questions: Is the Rainbow Pro 8" the only scroller that will fit a S4 Par, or do I have other (preferably cheaper) options. I'm lighting a stage 10m Wide by 6m Deep, will I get away with using just 5 of these to light the stage (rig height is approx 5m, so I should be able to get sufficient coverage width wise out of the WFL lens in any case, however I'm worried about light about (these are 575w)). Anyone within driving distance of north London want to lend me 5/10 scrollers + PSU for a nominal fee? No? Thought not... In the meantime I'm looking into the feasibility of doing this without scrollers, but that in turn means more lanterns (which will need to be hired), and more dimmer channels used (though I'm currently OK on that, bar specials to be added). I'm looking at putting 12 frames in them at the moment, though if needs must I will probably reduce this to a four colour wash. Thanks for the help. J Pearce
I've used some form of ChromaQ scroller in S4 Pars before. The cheap old things, I think they came from Gradav, though they may well have been retired by now, and my Gradav price list is 100miles away. tokm
Is the Rainbow Pro 8" the only scroller that will fit a S4 ParNo, ChromaQ CQ1s as well as the Universals & Cascades fit s4 pars fine. In regards to your particular situation, try giving Sam @ London Light a call/email. They're based in London (as you'd expect from the name..) And have 12 Rainbow 8's. His numbers: 07951 538137 & email: sam@london-light.com For scroller hire in general in the past I've used Viking Stage Lighting (mainly because 1: didn't know till too recently that LLPS had scrollers & 2: often need more than 12!) - 99quid (ex Vat n shipping) for 6 + whatever cables & PSU. Individual scrollers @ £14.50 each IIRC, not a bad deal IMO.. Hope the two options I've mentioned are of use to you. T *edit - sod it, I'll put LLPS's details here rather than PM them to you, could be of some use to others in the future looking for scrollers in north london*
gareth
ChromaQ CQ1D units do indeed fit a S4 Par, and if you can find some for rental they should be cheap as chips. Do bear in mind, though, that if you use the wide lens you're likely to get quite a bit of spill/flare coming from between the lantern and the scroller - when using S4 Pars in such a way, I've always found that liberal application of Blacktak is required in order to control the stray light. Sony
I don't know if they are available in the UK but Apollo SmartColor scrollers are great! I've used them many times and they are cheap but also reliable as far as I've experienced.
LeeStoddart
I have routinely used Chroma Q scrollers on S4Pars (will use 20 of them like this in this year's panto) Obviously you do need to specify the correct size backplate - it's not the same size as Par64! I have a source in Hampshire if that's any use pm me.
mbthegreat
Gradav don't hire ChromaQs, but I'm speaking to other people listed. Thanks for the help guys...
tom_the_LD
Just as a slight sidenote/out of curiosity, what is the amount you have to play with for hiring in the scrollers?
J Pearce
For reference a Cantata backplate should fit a S4 Par nicely. However, an S4 Par frame is marginally too big to fit a cantata...
mbthegreat
Oh deary me. The director has now decided he wants a Jem Glaciator. So I can pretty much kiss my scrollers goodbye.
