minioak
Hi, Just wondering - the usb socket on the LS9 - has anyone tried plugging an iPod into it instead of a pen drive? Figure it should / might work if the iPod (like a 1Gb shuffle) is formatted correctly (i.e. as a storage device, and not as an iPod), but was wondering if anybody had actually tried it. The manual says it will work with a single partioned FAT16 / FAT32 usb pen no more than 2Gb - but again just looking for real life experience. Cheers John
soundboy91
As long as the iPod is formatted correctly as a storage device it should be fine because the desk should read it as a USB pen drive. I have not tried it but think it will be fine.
6th Order
Don't forget any files you want it to 'see' need to be in the file path \YPE\songs. Not sure you can do that on an iPod.
Rob_Beech
I believe you can when its setup as a storage device as it is just that. So any directory tree can be created.
upsuEnts
It works. But in all honesty, when a decent sized pen drive only costs a few quid now, why would you bother?

Steve_Hole
yeah external hard drives work also But up to what size... I seem to remember the LS9 will only read up to 2 gig... Steve ;)
dunk_1984
But up to what size... I seem to remember the LS9 will only read up to 2 gig... The M7 says the same, however I regularly use my 4GB Flash drive with that.

The M7 says the same, however I regularly use my 4GB Flash drive with that. The M7 USB port is different than the LS9. The question was about music playback via the USB port on the LS9. The USB port on an M7 is for show file transfer, user authorization, and firmware installation only. Yamaha says in the manual that you can use other USB storage devices, but that only USB sticks are "guaranteed" to work. Of course not all USB sticks work either. ;) Mac
dunk_1984
The question was about music playback via the USB port on the LS9. Where is this question? However on the LS9 The LS9 provides a USB memory recorder function that lets you easily record internal signals toUSB memory, or play back audio files recorded on USB memory. As the file format for recording, it uses MP3 (MPEG-1 Audio Layer-3). For playback, it supportsMP3 as well as WMA (Windows Media Audio) and AAC (MPEG-4 AAC) files. However, DRM(Digital Rights Management) is not supported.By using the USB memory recorder, the output from the STEREO bus or a MIX bus can berecorded to USB memory, or background music or sound effects saved in USB memory can beplayed back via an assigned input channel. My point was that the desks will support more than 2GB devices.
