Ginger
My current place of work bought an Ion desk a couple of weeks back and we havn't really used it much, however this morning at a demo session the Ion just turned itself off. After this happening a few times the desk gave up on us completely and wouldn't come on anymore. We suspect that the power supply has gone. I was wondering if anyone else has come across this problem with the Ion as we'd had a similar problem with a congo a few months back. Also I would be grateful if somebody could let me know how to get rid of the anoying beep when you select something when using touch screens with the desk? its driving me crazy!!! :P
Joe Bleasdale
Which version of software are you running on both the congo and Ion?
Big Jay
Why not just give ETC support a ring (0)20 8896 1000 and ask for product support, ETC are very good for helping there customers.
Ginger
Why not just give ETC support a ring (0)20 8896 1000 and ask for product support, ETC are very good for helping there customers. We have and they are sending us a new one instead of getting ours repaired. However I've come across too many dodgey power supplys in ETC desks recently so I wondered if this is happening a lot. Nick S
The Eos/Ion forum on the ETC site is frequented by their technicians, worth asking this there. I've never had any particular issues with ETC PSUs - no more than other manufacturers. You can turn system sounds on/off via the CIA, inside the setup screen using the aptly named 'Turn sounds off' button. If you've done that and you're still getting beeps, it's probably your touch screens themselves rather than the desk.
agermich
I haven't heard of any problems with the power supplies but as posted previously it is well worth posting on the ETC forum as there are a lot of regular eos/ion users on there. You might have just been unfortunate and got a bad one - try to not let this bad experience put you off, I think that the Ion is an excellent desk. woody74
I've come across too many dodgey power supplys in ETC desks recentlyIn the same location/venue? Might be the mains serving your supplies... And page 86 of the manual (v1.4) gives a diagram and description of where the sounds can be shut off. -w
Ginger
Just a bit of an update on my problem for all of you that are intrested, The 2nd new etc desk they sent the school died within a week of them having it, this time it was a software problem, the school are now on their 3rd desk. Also, I've had news from other areas of more Ion's breaking with similar problems. I've been doing some training with the UK sales rep from etc and he couldn't believe that so many are breaking. Its not looking good for etc's Ion.....
Tim Edwards
To be fair, the ION I own has not had any problems and I've been running around different venues- some with temporary main. Also from looking at the ETC forum there are no reported power supply issues. Are you sure there isn't something weird with the power supply at the venue... Tomo
Also, I've had news from other areas of more Ion's breaking with similar problems. I've been doing some training with the UK sales rep from etc and he couldn't believe that so many are breaking.I probably shouldn't post this (Murphy's Law!), but I've just been going through the records and there have been very, very few failures of Ion consoles. Ginger's college was easy to find, as it's the only place that's had two failures. From the description, the second doesn't appear to be anything to do with the PSU, so mains issues are highly unlikely! We are still waiting for this unit to come back to ETC for investigation, so unfortunately I don't yet know what caused the failure. We can only apologise for the issues you've had, but it does just look like really bad luck.
Ben Couch
The one we have at college is good, and has never had any problems really, The Ion and Eos are great desks, probably my new favourites now. Also the good thing is that the ETC Service is great should things break
