Oi! Big Nose!

my sister works for BBC Radio and phoned me this week asking if I had done any shows recently involving false noses... they were doing a feature on the opening of 'Cyrano de Bergerac' at the National and this was their angle...

So, with that in mind, what is the oddest bit of make up you've ever seen on an actor and did it fall off at an inoportune moment?

For Example;

I did Richard III a few years ago and about halfway through act one his hump slipped down to his arse thereby significantly changing history and causing several cues to be missed as the DSM (and the rest of us :P ) couldn't stop laughing...

perhaps thats how me suffocated the princes in the tower... by sitting on them ;)

(I appreciate that Richard III is elizabethan propoganda and he probably didn't have a hump, squint and squeaky voice but if you're name was Shakespeare and you wanted the grand-daughter of the man who'd killed him to sponsor you you'd have given him four arms, a stammer and a teapot - shaped forehead... admit it) :)

you get the idea...

Way back in '92 I found myself as a hapless V*L tech on tour with Spanish supergroup Mecano. One number, about half way through the show, featured an intro with dramatic, swirling keyboard chords and huge clouds of smoke, through which emerged the dashing figure of Nacho (lead guitar / vocals), with a pair of gossamer-like wings strapped to his back. The wings were hooked up to a pneumatic system so that they could flap, albeit in a rather jerky and unconvincing manner.

One night, one of the wings became disconnected and remained static, while the other one continued to flap :P It was one of the greatest Spinal Tap moments I've ever been a party to. The wings remained fixed after that and looked all the more convincing for it. The music was OK, though and I still give Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar and Barco A Venus a spin on the CD player every now and then, although I'm b :) gg :** laughs out loud **: r :** laughs out loud **: d if I know what the lyrics mean ;)

Barco a venus means Boat of Venus which I suspect alludes to something to do with a lady... ;)

hoy no me puedo levantar means I'm cant get up today (because he was drinking all weekend and is too tired... could be a technician anthem...) :P

Barco a venus means Boat of Venus...

I didn't know you were a fan ;)

Here are the lyrics in full.

has ido... etc.

You're right about Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar. I don't speak Spanish, but given the similarities to other languages, I can see that's what it appears to be about.

Sorry to go OT so soon ;) COME ON YOU LOT ! there must be a few amusing make up anecdotes out there somewhere, let's hear them :)

According to BabelFish ....

You always say that these traveling but me these deceiving I that your these single one and who salts of your room the lights of the street do not do damage to you when salts because your world is another but much dark

dejalo already, you know that never you have gone to Venus in a boat you want to float but the unico that beams is hundirte

you know that you happen through the life without leaving your lie that many feed and that every day grows

the Mafia persecutes to you and it takes the policia to you lock up to you and they loosen to you and all they say to you

dejalo already, you know that never you have gone ... etc.

Hmmmmm ... :)
