Ike Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 I have been asked to light a rave in a huge empty space. I have no problems with the generics, moving heads, haze and strobes however I want to also use half a dozen moving mirrors of which I have no experience. I have had a brief look at the Scan 1200 XT from robe and was wondering if anyone had any tips for its use as well as any others I may find useful.
Stu Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 In case your not aware of this the Martin Roboscan Pro 918 is a Mac 500 in a mirror and the MX-10 Extreme is basically a 250 (I think it has all the Krypton bits in it now, where as it used to be the bog standard 250) in a mirror. HTHStu
vinny baby Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 the pro roboscans are great moving mirror fixtures, and have superb optics ect. I agree with your surgestion of the ROBE scanner, as I have a great connection with ROBE at the moment and used most of there products including the fixture you mention, then I would highly recommend it, its probably as good 'effect wise' as the martin model, but I would say it has better optics, and therefore seems to give better output for other models in its lamp class the roboscan has a 575w lamp, the ROBE has a 1200w lamp, (as the name surgests) You can get the ROBE in a 575w version. sometimes I prefer scaners to movers, simply for speed reasons, and I find them better for club work so a Rave type event would be perfect for a scaner. There are not really any tips I can give on the use of a scaner, as the majority of the use depends on how good your design skills are. if its a Rave I would use some fast movement, and plenty of fast strobing effects, most of the time the audiences attention isnt with the lighting, so you have to make it as visualy stunning as possible. vince
olistockman Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 As usual....... ;) my vote will go with Robe, I've got a brace of the little DJScan 250's and have found them to be exceptional lights..(and for those who have to put up with my rantings about Robe.....I'm not a salesman or a company rep....just a very happy user :P )
Ike Posted April 15, 2004 Author Posted April 15, 2004 OK, I now have pretty much everything sorted. Thanks for everyones responses. Ike
mac500 Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 I would suggest the Goldenscan range would be pretty cool for a giant rave!
vinny baby Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 I must admit im a great fan of the Goldenscans, but they are huge!!! and from experience prone to fault. vince
Stu Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 While on the subject of Goldenscans, anyone noticed that Clay Paky have brought out the Goldenscan 4? Stu
merlin24 Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 While on the subject of Goldenscans, anyone noticed that Clay Paky have brought out the Goldenscan 4? Stu Clay paky are advertising the Golden Scan 4 and The Miniscan HP3, but as far as anyone is aware they are not actually in production yet still in prototype stage. Andy
mac500 Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 Just wondered why clay paky only puts 4 gobo's per wheel in the goldenscan range? Seems fairly limiting. I do like the miniscans though some cool gobo's.
