mac500 Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 Where can I get a pleasence application form from?
Guest lightnix Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 ...and C Venues are the worst... :o Ssssssshhhhhhhhhhh !!!
sonic Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 Sent my application form for C off today. Anyone from here going up this year? Andrew Yeah I am... any one else joining in on the band of whole hearted fun - at the bar
dominicgross Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 Apply here but be warned that they normally get staffed up quite early. The best thing about working for the pleasance, is the 'Brooks' Bar in the Pleasance domes: cheep booze and food for crew and companies.
Stu Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 How much do Pleasance pay tho - there isn't anything I can find on their website, or on the application form, which doesn't half make me think they've got something to hide... Stu
dominicgross Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 can't remember exactully: but it was enough to pay for beer, food and a couple of shows at other venues. it was much more then the other venues, *cough, C cough*. I didn;t leave edinburgh having made any money though. You need to think of it as a learning experience: I did more rigging and saw more shows in the 2 weeks then I have in the rest of my life...
smeggie Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 hiapparently they have been inundated with applications over the w/end so it may be a while before they get back to you.[this garnered from the I/c there] - have applied for pleasance this year, does anyone know what the accomodation is like there/ how far away...cheersandrew
dominicgross Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 pretty good!!! Accomodation is based (like the venues) in part of edinburgh university. Last time I stayed in there accom I ended up in the princess street halls! - princess street being THE location in edinburgh, about 10/15 min walk from the courtyard and a but further to the domes. They dot their staff around, depending on where there's room. The accomodation is pretty good however.
smeggie Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 cool. how early are they staffed, what do they do for pay too? - i.e. rate/show? how long a day is needed to work? - as venue crew mind. cheersandrew
Neil Frazer Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 I was working the festival for NYT a few years. they paid for my accomodation and a reasonable wage. Still cost me £1000 though. one big party.
chris Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 Yes I am condoning drinking lots after working a shocking amount of hours, so get it up ya.And I was kidding about the accents. The above views are personal and in no way the ideals of my employer. arf arf
Guest lightnix Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 Yes I am condoning drinking lots after working a shocking amount of hours, so get it up ya.In that case maybe you should read this this, which among other things points out that...Another factor in this problem is alcohol. "Alcohol, although it seems to help one sleep, is harmful to the body. The more alcohol one uses the less sleep one gets" or this, which contains the following quote near the end...The impact of the risk of fatigue has not been quickly recognised. It is hazardous to drive or work after extended wakefulness or a night without sleep, and such effects are made worse by drinking alcohol. Drivers and the general public need to be made aware of the dangers of fatigue. Employers should know about the impact of work-rest schedules on performance of their employees. (Bold type mine). The above views are personal and in no way the ideals of my employer.arf arfHmmm... :P
