DJ Teknovibe Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I'm gonna get myself some new mid/high cabs next year about january and was wondering if there was much difference in sound quality bewteen the QSC HPR153i and the QSC HPR122i cabinets. I've never heard eaither speaker but have made a choice out of these 3 speakers : QSC HPR153i 3-Way Active Speaker Cabinets DB Technologies Flexsys 315 3-Way Active Speaker Cabinets QSC HPR122i 2-Way Active Speaker Cabinets Which is these has the best sound quality do you think guys?
fatfrog Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 This is an extremely difficult question to answer to be honest due to their being so many variables!!! What is your source material style? What is your intended use Live/Playback? Do you intend to run them with or without subwoofers? What is the rest of your equipment? Anyways, U get the idea the list goes on, So if you could answer those questions for us we'd be a little bit better informed as to your intentions? Alan
DJ Teknovibe Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 Well they're gonna be used with 4 DB Technologies Arena Pro SW18 1,000 watt 18" subwoofers, and the music thats gonna be played through them is uk happy hardcore, trance, drum & bass and techno, all from my turntables. The rest of my equipment is : Technics SL1210 TurntablesRane TTM56 DJ MixerDBX Driverack 260 Loudspeaker Management System
mervaka Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I have a pair of 122i tops myself, which I run with 151i bass bins. I must ask you though, if you've never heard of QSC, let alone heard their speakers, why are you about to splash out a couple of grand on them? always try before you buy.
fatfrog Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Well,Ok, It seems as though the rest of your equipment is up to scratch anyways, So I'd suggest with going for a demo at some supplier to see if you like the sound of these speakers. And, If so then I'd see if there is someone nearby who has them in hire stock so u can take them out and have a proper road test with the rest of your Rig, Then & only then will you be able to make an informed decision...I know it might be 100 - 200 pound for the night, but it's alot better than paying 2k to find out they don't work well with your existing gear

As for trying them out, I got no chance, cos the nearest shop who actually stocks them is 98 miles away in Hertforshire, and I live in Lincolnshire, so getting a demo of them is gonna be a bit hard, especially when the shop that stocks them hasn't actually got them on demo, so all I do is ask as many people as possible and see what people think of them. As long as sound quality is good on them then I don't mind what kind of character they have.
fatfrog Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Well, Have a look around your local hire companies and see if anyone happens to have them, I seriously urge u to try before you buy especially as it's a large amount of money!!! Also, QSC are relatively unproven as a speaker manufacturer, Whilsts there amps are totally top notch!!!
mervaka Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 in which case, yes I do like QSC speakers from what I've so far heard. I cant say I've heard the 153i though.

I've found a few hire companies that do use them, the HPR122i cabs and the HPR 18" subs but its in london. Maybe they'll let me go down there and demo them.
