James
I was wondering where the best place to buy par 56 1000w is. Do you mean 1000W Par 64's? or 300W Par 56's though you can put CK8X series lamps into 56's to get 500w par 56's I have never seen 1K 56's Anyway you could try somewhere bugdet like Thomann though you do get what you pay for. Par 64 apx.£15 inc VATPar 56 apx £14 inc VAT My past experience is unless you can get the cans for free it's hardly worth it they are so cheep anyway. Good Luck ;) James
samrennie
Hi sorry about that I've found out now that we have a par 64 case with a 1000w bulb in (one blew and we got that one), any places to avoid?!?! Sam
Tom
Sam,I'm a bit confused as to what your are asking now. If the following is too basic then I'm sorry.A ParCan consists of basically two parts - a PAR lamp (which is an all in one filament, reflector and lens) and a metal Can to put it in - hence ParCan (somebody else will tell you what PAR stands for).Par lamps (and therefore ParCans) come in various sizes and wattage - the most common in theatre use is the 1000w (1Kw) Par 64. These in turn come in various beam angles. (Normally called CP60 / CP61 / CP62 just to confuse the issue). The can bit is fairly cheap as James points out above but the lamp is more expensive. Now - what you after? ;)
James C
(somebody else will tell you what PAR stands for).Parabolic Aluminized Reflector (couldn't remember what the A was for - Shepperd's Glossary to the rescue!)
Pete Alcock
I've just bought a couple more Par64's from CPC last week and was very nicely surprised; They have a very tough paint that doesn't seem to scratch easily, a decent length of HO5 rubber cable, an internal gauze in front of the lamp, a rear gauze so you can't stick yer hand in, a proper ceramic choc block with fibreglass tails to the ceramic lampholder, and an angle adjustment knob. The back and front were earth bonded, CE approved and even fitted with a 13A (!!) plug. All for £21 each plus VAT. Well I thought it was good anyway. Pete. p.s. Does anybody bother with raylight reflectors these days? I've always found them to be too narrow to be of general use.
Guest lightnix
And, just for the record, the number is decided by how many eighths of an inch in diameter they are. So, a PAR64 is sixty-four eighths of an inch in diameter, or eight inches.

AndrewGrant
I was in stage electrics (Exeter) last thursday and was surpised to find ParCan 64's at about 30 quid...brand spanking new! I was very impressed, although the bulb will set you back a bit more!

I was very impressed, although the bulb will set you back a bit more! Sorry, Is this suposed to be cheep? as I posted higher up you can get them for as little as £15 new though I now see that my post could have been read to imply this price was for second hand. :D Sorry I just have this figure in my head of £25 being the highest I would pay for a new can. ;) Ho Hum. benweblight
where is the best place to buy the 500w par56 lamps? if it is 120v I guess I can't use one with 240v mains? (unless there is 2?)
KosmasKosmakos
What is the most common PARCAN they are using on external music events ? Someone have told me PARCANS on 1000w bulp because the 300w wont be so much good and visible. is this true? and somehing else. I ve been on a consert and I saw that the man who was managing the lights had two consoles. one for the heads and one for the PARS and the blinders. I know that you can control PARCANS and blinders on that same console with heads. why would someone use two consoles?
berry120
It depends! We've got a mixture of 1k and 500W lamps, we're moving over to 500 because they're cheaper and since we're gradually getting more macs, source 4's etc. the cans are being used less (and we don't need them to be as prominent.) 1000W are brighter obviously, but then that's because they're more powerful! He probably had two consoles for ease of use, or because 1 wouldn't have enough space on it. That way he knows on desk x he only needs to worry about movers being altered, and if he needs to alter generics they'll all be in one place, on desk y. KosmasKosmakos
thx for answering :P Well yeah you re right... but I don't think it was about space. there was 28 heads (probably 575w) and he had a console that looked like MA mikro (one screen etc) I could not spot the firm on it. On the other console he had the Pars and the blinders as I said and I saw him having two buttons like when pushed blinders go on and when not blinders go off. he did that like a strobe trick with the blinders but he also had them on buttons (like up and down - like on the moving heads). With this second console he had programmed the par cans (5 lines of 6 parcans) to light like all blue then all red then all yellow etc. really fun and amazing to watch. :D
