DSA Posted April 5, 2004 Posted April 5, 2004 Hi, Just to let you know of a great new venue on my doorstep in Cheltenham, the Centaur - and no I am not a 'salesman' for them! It is within the Cheltenham Racecourse complex, and is a brand new venue in which they hope to attract major conferences, pop concerts, trade shows etc etc. Have a look at the specs/photos on: Their Website I dont know how much it is to hire - but I saw Judy Dench there yesterday (first event in the venue!) and it was fantastic, much larger and better than I thought - and the acoustics sound very good too. Theres loads of truss going up, so it would be fantastic for pop concerts etc. Perhaps we can attract big names and event now! (without having to go to the NEC!) Best Wishes,David
minimac Posted April 5, 2004 Posted April 5, 2004 yea I went there on one of the racing days and they had about 10 mac 2000 up there, and a stage had been built for a band later on. it is a really nice complex!!
sam.henderson Posted April 5, 2004 Posted April 5, 2004 It does look great! Sort of reminds me of a new version of the Cardif Arena sort of thing. On thw whole does anyone know aprox how much those places are to hire for a week? Never really got involved with the hiring of venues before. Sam
Pete McCrea Posted April 5, 2004 Posted April 5, 2004 It's a good venue- I've spent most of the last week working with Tomcat as a freelance sub contractor with the rigging install, and back there tomorrow for to fly some truss and re hang the PA. There are some issues where the Architect hasn't quite thought things thru but that's to be expected with those types. The mother grid is 2 17m truss boxes each flown on 12 1t lodestars. Each point has a load cell in it, so we'll know the exact load on the point, including the motor. Each motor also has an encoder fitted so you can tell the rate of climb, and if one motor is lagging behind then it gets sped up to make sure things stay good. It's been a mare fitting all the cables (5 for each point) due to having to get the picker in thru the roof beams, and all the lighting- I was in there till gone midnight on friday trying to tidy up for sundays gig. Apparently you'd be looking at about £5k for a days hire. But don't take that for read. There's plenty of scope for all types of event with the in house Meyer M1D sound system and 48k of Pars. not the most amazing of in house systems, but then if you want a full intelligent rig your likely to be bringing it your self. Quite a groovy place really. Here's hoping that it does take off, as I get more work!!! Have a look Here on my site and Here at the CSS Site for some pictures. Little DJ
P. Funk Posted April 5, 2004 Posted April 5, 2004 from the pics it looks just like the brighton centre!
Potassium Neuf Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 I hope the new venue attracts some of the larger groups as I am getting rather tired of some groups "British Tours" consisting of London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow :(
Pete McCrea Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 It might be a bit small for the big tours, as I think the capacity is just under for the 'Arena' type tours, but here's hoping, as it means more work for me!! I was back in today re-flying the Line Array ready for a gig on Sunday. The Mothergrid and spreaders make for easy work to reposition the points and fly things in different positions. (Oh, and I believe that it was Mac500's over race week...)
