Hi there, what magazines do you read(lighting and sound related!) and what would you suggest for me. I would like a good monthly lighting mag? How would I subscribe?

Cheers

:( (couldn't resist)

What Stu said, although Total Production is pretty good, too and I seem to be getting free copies of Access All Areas for some reason, which adds another dimension to the Big Picture.

Whatever else you do, do not pay for these magazines ! Nobody else does (except the advertisers) ;)

I first started getting L&Si for free when I filled in a form at some PLASA show or other. TP sent me a few free introductory copies when it first came out, accompanied by an invitation to pay £3.50 a month for it. I ignored the invitation and have continued to receive it free ever since :( I think you get TP free if you join the PSA.

Visit the trade shows and sign up for the mags, whatever thay are; that's probably the best advice I can give here.

With regard to free copies of L&SI, would I be likely to get them as a sixth form student in charge of technical things, whilst not actually taking a course in the subject?? Their website is not exactly clear on this!

Thanks,

David

I always managed it, I don't think they ask for more than a college name, let alone actually check up.

Well I have sent the form off stating my school in 'college' and A-levels for 'course' - we will see what happens...

UPDATE: received the following email earlier this week:

Thank you for your completed Reader Registration Form for a free subscription to the L&SI magazine.

I'm afraid you do not qualify for a free subscription as it is only free to students at University who are on a full time course working towards a recognized qualification relevant to the lighting & sound industry.

However your school would qualify, perhaps you can get your tutor to complete the attached Reader Registration Form and return it to me.

Oh well, it was worth a try

Funny. I was told that my school (with specialist performing arts status) didn't count. They must have changed their rules.

You could also try Lighting Equipment News. Mainly architectural, but with much of interest to photon fans everywhere.

Haven't managed a blag as yet, but live in hope. Maybe a school or college could wing it.

Subscription page here (£48 in the UK, I think).
