I have a Pulsar Masterpiece 216 and I recntly brought it, paid a good price, but I have tried it out and could not work it out so I am now wonderering what the 2nd Hand value is on it, I have just flightcased it as well. It is in good woeking order and very clean has come from a Nightclub.

Pulsar do training courses on the Masterpiece at their offices in Cambridge. They were free to go on a few years back when I went.

Personally I find programming the masterpiece is an aquired skill, a state of mind maybe. The training course helped a lot.

An A1 216 would probably go for about a grand [if you can find a buyer!]. I've bought and sold a few - good condition is vital because I've had a few intermittent faults that Pulsar couldn't solve [possibly due to beer?]. I mainly use 216s for bar / nightclub installs but the new Martin Xciter looks to be a more competent replacement for this application - don't know how much longer these controllers will be around for... Get an offer from AC Lighting if you're desperate to get rid of it.

As for programming, Masterpiece is, in my opinion, a very simple controller to use. Give it some time and you might be surpised!

the masterpeices are a great little desk if you have any clay paky fixtures to run on them, they are excellent for LED stuff, and still popular enough for pulsar to keep making them, they are a to program unless you are used to it, but if you have ever programmed any other sort of lighting desk you will think its crap and very hard to use...

pulsar pulled off a stunning effort back in the 1860's when they invented the masterpiece as it was lightyears ahead of its time and its still going now! how many other pieces of kit can you say that about - I had this discussion with a friend recently, and when pulsar finally bring out a new desk then it should be worth investing in, as their history dictates it should last the course and then some....

just my thoughts...

but in answer to the original question I wouldn't expect you to get any more than £800 for it, unless you can find someone who wants one for an install - is it a new one or an old one?

I recently sold A very good condition 9 month old Masterpiece 108 and a chipboard case on eBay for £570, but you should hopefully see around £850-£1000 for it to the right person,

Hey, I work with a Masterpiece 108 at the moment and although it's a to use, I'm gettin used to it. I can see where your coming from with the 216.

I've got 4 Clay Paky Miniscan's, 6 Datamoons and 24 parcan's all running from it and it is quite a cool old skool board to use. I use it in a nightclub for live bands/acts and clubnights. I don't mind the programming cos I'm used to it and find it quite easy, though it's a different ball game to more conventional boards (eg Fat Frog). A good thing about it is it's Chase Generator sequences - amaizing effects. I like the whole keyboard/pad idea too but what I'm finding difficult is using environments effectively. Sometimes it IS like playing the keyboard when changing the lighting states (hense its fuction). Though it keeps me on my feet. Oh and one real bugger about the board is OVERIDING! Trying to tame blinking LED's, I hate it. Overall though, it's a nice little board.

To the original Q - Yeah second hands ones would range between 600 and 900 quid though remember to include the instruction manual!!!!
