supermaza
Hi, I'm doing a project for my technical theatre course. I need to know when Lee Filters started and if you can, a brief history would be helpful, Thanks, supermaza :P
boatman
:P is your friend. From the FAQ: Will you do my homework for me? No. But if you are looking for a range of industry/user opinions then we may be happy to help. We will require you, however, to show that you have thought about the question first. This can be done, for example, in one of three ways: 1) "This is the question and these are the views of people whose books/articles I've read. What do you think?"2) "This is the question and these are my thoughts. What do you think?"3) "I've set up a questionaire and wondered if you would mind completing it. Here's the link." supermaza
Well I hardly think I'm asking you to do my homework for me. It's a very small part of the project. I just want a date or 'the 20s' or whatever. I've looked on the website and used google but I'm not very good at researching, and thought somebody might just be helpful. supermaza
musht
Some people just get their kicks by being unhelpful, rude and sometimes downright inaccurate. AFAIR, Lee Electrics Lighting was set up by 2 brothers Lee in late 40`s early 50`s , both electricians they had an increasing workload from Elstree studios and thought they would specialise. Lee Ligting now belongs to Panalux part of Panavision not sure if Lee Filters is still part of same group or when exactly they came into existence, but not before 1950 at a guess. Flicktech
I agree with boatman but I'm in a good mood so a very quick search on Wikepedia gave this resultLee International But remember "cutting and pasting" won't get you a good grade! Validate the facts, do some research yourself, maybe actually contact the company? If you really feel that your skills in research are poor and need help then try improving the core skills rather than just getting the quick answers. Maybe chatting to historians, researchers or librarians etc to get the technique and mind-set down. Plus then you'll be able to apply that to tackle any problem whether it's an assignment or how to fix that oh-so-show-critical-equipment-piece that makes or breaks your show! Don't think I'm having a go I'm just a big believer in the proverb:“Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime”—Author unknown

Tomo
How do you find out this stuff?!!!I know very little. But I do know the following: A) Where my local library is, how to find relevant books and papers within it and, and how to read the indices within those books.B) That Google does not, in fact, know anything - but with clever use of keywords it can help you find useful sites.C) How to search various knowledge bases, both in book form and online.D) How to use my telephone. E) That much of the of information in Wikipedia is factually incorrect - but sometimes points you in the right direction. These are vital skills that you should spend some time learning. The most valuable skill in today's society is "How to find things out."- Knowledge of details is much less important than it used to be. And supermaza - you have just asked us to do your homework.A significant part of this kind of assignment is learning how to find the answers - the answers themselves are generally unimportant. He has learnt one way of finding the answers and thats asking people who may know. Give the kid a break. The only stupid question is the one you never ask!
