Rob Posted March 30, 2004 Posted March 30, 2004 Just wondering if anyone out there has a plan of the Hilton Park Lane's Ballroom with stuff like chandeliers and Rigging points (and socca's ideally!). I know roughly where everything is, but its a while since I've been near the place and everythings all a bit fuzzy! Anything from a sketch or a good photo, to an Autocad file would be much appreciated before I get onto the hotel. Ta!
raj Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 havent got a plan but the main rigging points are above the main stage area (at the wall with the entrance to the lobby area). Their main disto unit is available from them in house if you ask them nicely!
Peter Russell Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 Rob, I have emailed you a cad plan that shows the rigging points, room dividers and so on, from memory the points are rated to 1 tonne each, possibly a bit higher. HTH, Peter
Big Dave Posted April 1, 2004 Posted April 1, 2004 Just for info, all the soca & audio tie lines from the patch panels to the points now actually work (which is nice and saves a whole lot of cable) On the down side, they have been having a lot of problems with the lift recently, like it keeps breaking down. Last week we had to load in the whole show up the tiny service lifts to the mez floor above and then carry it down the stairs into the ballroom. Not a happy crew. Worth checking the day before. Also, a member of staff who will remain name less informed us that the noise abatement order that exists for loading out of hours can be by passed if the lift breaks as you can't get any of your kit into the loading bay if the lifts broken!
Guest lightnix Posted April 2, 2004 Posted April 2, 2004 Do they still have that obnoxious, bald little jobsworth at the bottom of the lift, who holds up the load out so that the vegetables can be delivered ? Always a laugh at 4am :P
Rob Posted April 2, 2004 Author Posted April 2, 2004 And that lovely smell that seems to hang around the dock and lift - I think they call it "fragrance a la #####" :P
Rob Mander Posted April 2, 2004 Posted April 2, 2004 I did a show at Windows Restaurant at the top of the Hilton last week, three vans got clamped and one towed away during the load out...be warned!
Pete McCrea Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 Very Bleak getting vans Clamped during the load out.......such a bummer all you want to do is get the kit out and naff off home, but some sod has put a clamp on it!

Guest lightnix Posted April 4, 2004 Posted April 4, 2004 I did a show at Windows Restaurant at the top of the Hilton last week, three vans got clamped and one towed away during the load outOuch ! What time was that at ? may I suggest keeping an angle grinder with youTempting, isn't it ? Just bear in mind that a Criminal Damage charge will work out more expensive than a parking fine. On the plus side, the Hilton Park Lane Ballroom isn't too a bad room to work in (once you've got past Baldy In The Basement, squeezed in through the doors and vied with the waiting staff over your right to a proper blackout for focusing). It has decent power, decent hanging points and Socapex tie lines - all major plusses IMHO. It's certainly a big step forward from what it used to be like.
timmath Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 I'm also trying to get a plan for this room for any upcoming show... if anyone would be so gracious tim'at'timmatthews.com cheers tim
Russ247 Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Rigging points are not just at the stage end but quite a good coverage throughout the room. I believe baldy is still there though I didn't see him last month when I was in. They have a very handy powered rigging platform / hoist (always forget the proper name for it - kind of a magic capet for one!). Is not the original one they had with screw down legs, that's long gone. Hopefully it is charged up but don't hold your breath. You'll need a current licence to get it from security in the basement. One good thing is the loading bay stench has gone. I was very impressed as I have actually heaved one time down there!! To keep hold of the lift use Gallows for the ins & out & insist on "George". He's a Belorussian & is about 6'7" & the only man I know to climb a ladder with a Stage Scan in each hand a rig them on a bar!! I'll have a dig around for a plan as I have one knocking around somewhere ...If anyone else has one please bounce one over to me in case I can't find it :(
Russ247 Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 No, can't find the plan. Think it went with my old laptop! So, Peter R, would much appreciate a copy if you would be so kind R
Peter Russell Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 I will try and find a copy when I'm next in the office, anyone who wants a copy PM me with an email addressPeter
