Hi there

Here's the brief; Jealous lover gives rival a gift of a cloak, which rival puts on, cloak becomes hot starts to burn flames away to nothing revealing charred skeleton, {like you do}.

I can switch the actress for skeleton wearing hooded cloak, has anybody got any thaughts on flame effect. can be fairly styalised, but would rather try real flame then a silk light. cheers

You can get some quite nice bi colour satins or faux satins, you could "double line" the cloak, line once and then add a extra half both sides, thus a almost firey wing effect. The more you have the more you can cover up. The add the 2nd person with a mask.

You could add in some nice up lighting or cross lit fire gobos and would work a treat.

Multiple very thin layers of silky fabric, a whole layer being a LED curtain of flame coloured leds on a pattern scroller. then some diffusing layer(s)

Presuming that the skeleton isn't a person, why not make it fireproof, smoke it out and then set the thing on fire! Just make it a cheap cloak and use one per performance. Depends on your distance to your audience and other scenery etc, but for an outdoor show it seems a feasible option.

The tough bit is the switch so if you can get that the rest is a carefully placed smoke machine and ignition source.

Especially at this time of year you're going to struggle to do anything outdoors with a lighting effect unless you're looking at a midnight show!

Or if setting it on fire is too extravagant from a H&S point of view then get a powerful smoke machine, completely engulf it (with a couple of PAR 64s in red / orange focussed on it if you like) and remove the cloak under cover of the smoke.

Thanks for that, its an evening show and this happens at the end, so at worst its deep dusk,

I'm liking the smoke and am thinking that if I Torched the top of the cloak and hood which would drop the bottom and do the reveal and put smoke under and in the cloak to stop it blowing away and helped it out with a red par I'd be getting there. I'll leave the switch to the artistes. any thaughts as to a good combustable material, it's happening on a stage, so minimal fall out would be a must.

wot a great forum I no longer feel so alone!
