Light Console Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 After a show I supplied lights for over the weekend, I am after a fix for the lamp tray on my Strand Preludes. I have two profiles and one Fresnel, all in reasonable condition. BUT, the stands were rigged in the audience, sectioned off and clearly marked. Whilst they were entering the seats, someone knocked into the stand base and clonk! two lamp trays fell down an inch or so. Sorted this out before show. End of show same person hits stand again :o , clonk yet again the lamp trays fell. After get out, I look at these and the screws seem to be good and not worn out. The stands have to be in the audience, but has anyone had any success in stopping this from happening? In the same gig, I fell out with minuette barndoors for the first time! :o
Ike Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 On preludes don't the screws go into those bent wire thingy ma bobs (its late ok), if so couldn't a bit of persuasion with a pair of pliers make them more difficult for it to come undone? Failing that you could always disconnect all the CPCs and connect an electric fence generator to the stand, that should stop people knocking it as much.
robloxley Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 You can buy replacements for both the quarter-turn fastners in the base and the socket they go into in the lamp body.
Light Console Posted March 29, 2004 Author Posted March 29, 2004 Thanks for those, will try in the following order:Pliers to bent wire thingy ma bobs, cheapest Replacement parts, Doh didn't think about that one!Electric fence generator, which might be more applicable!Buy new lanterns!!!
robloxley Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 Yeah, frankly you should be upgrading to MacRobe2000s with wiggly-this and chasing-that - which millennium are you in?
P. Funk Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 ** laughs out loud **. do the electric fence thing anyway. just for fun :D
Light Console Posted March 29, 2004 Author Posted March 29, 2004 Hey! I'm proud to say that my stuff is "State of the Ark", not "State of the Art" :D I was tempted a few years ago by the Strand SL. Then I worked with a Source Four. No competition really! Since I currently only charge costs for hire, and only get £2.50 ph take home pay, I can't afford much else! Though I am going to look at a 16 channel Soundcraft with P&G faders tomorrow, wonder what it will be exactly.
Fleeting Posted April 2, 2004 Posted April 2, 2004 Greetings, The little 1/4 Turn screw on the lamp tray is commonly known as a Zeus Clip ( haven't a clue why). The last ones I bought were from Farnell's mechanical catalogue. Also a lot of the knobs that strand use on there lanterns can be sourced from here. Hope this helps Fleeting
Chris M Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 *cough*Gaffer Tape*cough* :D  (its worked for me). Oh and if you dont want to have to clean the lamp all the time then LX Tape is almost as good, and doesnt make so much mess........
Light Console Posted April 3, 2004 Author Posted April 3, 2004 Actually, when I got them, they didn't have gel frames, and the previous owner had used gaffa. I found WD40 helped to get it off. I will look at new screws before putting gaffa around it!By Osiris, I didn't know about the name! Nor that there is a Farnell mechanical catalogue, so will put my researchers hat on.....
Louis sullivan NLS Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Slightly unrelated but I have a prelude with a knacked lamptray as the pins on the side that go into the casting so it hinges have been broken off , any suggestions
Genus Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Slightly unrelated but I have a prelude with a knacked lamptray as the pins on the side that go into the casting so it hinges have been broken off , any suggestions Didn't quite understand a word of that. Do you have a picture?
gareth Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Never mind that, I think we might have a new record for thread necromancy - almost five years!!! B-)
adamharman Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Didn't quite understand a word of that. Do you have a picture? Without bothering to go and look at one..... From what I remember, the lamp tray hinges on two small pins cast into the sides of it which locate in two holes in the sides of the lantern. That sort of thing is usually easy to fix by drilling through it all and putting a small bolt in. Gareth - at least it shows he's actually bothered to use the search function to look for an answer before asking!
