monkeh
Hi everyone I'm a stage manager looking to expand my technical skills - I'm really keen to develop my practical knowledge & experience of theatre/small non-theatre venue lx and/or sound but not sure of the best way to go about this. I'm not looking to do a formal course at present, just get a refresher and some more hands on experience. Would be great to have suggestions on the most constructive way to go about this (e.g. shadowing over a set period maybe?) - possibly asking a really stupid question here but just wanted some opinions on this one before I plan anything out! Thanks in advance S
gareth
My initial reactions are on-the-job experience in the form of casual work (if you're already in the industry you'll have your foot in various doors, so finding something should be that bit easier), and perhaps something like the ABTT Bronze Award in lighting or sound ... monkeh
Thanks for your reply Gareth :** laughs out loud **: That's basically what I was thinking of - not sure what basis to try to do this on (e.g. would spending say a week or so full time be better than a a couple of days ongoing?) I'm trying to balance it up in terms of a) learning as much as I can (which like you say is basically best done on the job) and b) not losing too much time/money as a freelance SM (blunt as it is!) Like you say I already have a foot in the door, but just looking for the most constructive way to further this without annoying the LDs/technicians I already work with!
