taffymonster
I've been working in this industry for 2.5 years or so now. I started at uni whilst doing an electronic engineering course which I eventually left to persue my 'career', preferably in the lighting end of things. I've done local crew work, board programming and op, moving head repairs, AV tech, equipment prep, rigger and all points between (except noise boy - sorry!). Having always been under the impression that qualifications are more of a hinderance than a help in this world, I've not had a problem with working my way through experience. Just came across a couple of courses that seem to be actually industry specific though, specifically two at Glamorgan uni (not a million miles away from me) - Live Event Technology and Lighting Design and Technology. The extract below is from the former: "This course has been developed after consultation with the industry and practitioners. It provides students with high-level technical skills and industry knowledge, combined with creative abilities in live event technology (including sound, lighting design and engineering), as well as event production (including theatre, conferences, performances and festivals). Graduates may also be qualified to the IEE 16th Edition Wiring Regulations." This also has PLASA's stamp on it. Just wondering if anyone thinks it's worth considering, as most of what I know is self-taught (IE made up!) or learnt from people in a similar position. Or am I just wasting my time considering it? Any views (especially informed) would be appreciated. Cheers all tMx
