Harpo
Hello, Does anyone know if it is possible to make the etc offline editor spit out DMX. I have spoken to ETC who say there is but they don't support it. I am effectively looking for a way to avoid the chaos of touring to far off venues that have strange desks and no one who seems to be able to operate them or at least make them do what I (probably unreasonably) want them to do. As we generally fly budget airlines and have our set with us, I can't usually tour our desk, but can manage a laptop and usb DMX converter. Does anyone have any suggestions? peter
What about Light Factory? It's only £299 and includes everything you need (software, licence, dongle). It's also designed for this application, so you won't have to bodge something together.
Harpo
Yes I am speaking to Zero 88, and think that it looks like a possible option, but have never really got on with their logic, where as I find etc expression thinks like I think (fussy I know, but there you go!). Tim Edwards
Hi Harpo, Have you tried Hog PC with a DMX widget? Tim
peter
Hi Ed Just to confirm what I spoke to you about on the phone a short while ago, Light Factory is an external product which we distribute which follows a whole host of different desk logics (you can use it command line, mouse based or even set it up as a touchscreen desk if you want) - they're a fantastically proactive comapny and are always looking for ways of improving the software. Please do take a look at the demo and see how you get on. Oh, and for those who are wondering, the fade times on Light Factory can work the Sirius (In/Out) or Strand/ETC (Up/Down) way, depending on which you prefer. What's your general response from the LightFactory software been? I've got the hardware (ENTTEC DMX USB Pro) but I've been kinda pining around about getting the liscence... I mostly do dance/theatre with a minimal # of intelligents... A touch screen would be glorious though... What kind of setups have you done with them? (do you have examples?) peter
Hi Scott Probably the best thing to do would be to take a look at the Light Factory website - they've done a host of setups from the opening ceremony of the Africas cup (10 full universes), to some fairly major productions in New Zealand and Australia, and it also gets used on Heros in the TV studios. Take a look here for examples. With regards setups, I've seen people using it with touchscreens, DMX Input devices as submasters and also people who are happy with a PC keyboard and mouse just use it as any other application - the choice is really up to you. Hope this helps, Peter
gareth
As far as I'm aware, the ETC offline editor is exactly that - offline. If there is a way to make it spit out DMX, I'll be very, very surprised. I'm sure Tomo will be along in a while to comment on that ... If you already have an Enttec DMX USB Pro, you could do a lot worse than check out the MagicQ PC software from Chamsys. It's free, and fully-functional with a US widget. You can also get various reasonably-priced USB-based hardware solutions to make programming and playback that little bit friendlier. Rather than bang on about it here, I'll just suggest that you give it a try and see what you think. I have no connection with Chamsys, other than being a satisfied customer - so you can actually be sure that at least one post in this thread is an unbiased recommendation of a product :). Tomo
None of ETC's offline editors are designed to output DMX control. That's why they are called offline editors. The Congo, Eos and Smartsoft (when offline) editors can be connected to various networked visualisation applications such as Capture 2005. (I would actually like to know who you spoke to, because ETC don't make any live lighting control software that doesn't require ETC hardware) If you're after a physically tiny lighting console, SmartFade and SmartFade ML may be worth looking at.
