Shez Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I've read somewhere that if you use them in one ear you have to turn the level up which can be harmful to your hearing but if you use them in both how do you hear the audience etc It's normal practice to have a couple of ambience mics that will pick up the audience, mixed in to the IEM mix to stop the feeling of isolation you can get when using IEMs. Still can take a bit of getting used to though. One ear in & one out is something to avoid if you value your hearing.
KevinE Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Im surprised anyone's had problems with the SRM450 overheating, though I've heard of a mobile disco who has overheated theirs. We get them in from time to time for repairs, (rarely anything serious as they're built like tanks), and I have to say we run them flat out into limiting on soak test and even after an hour or so they are barely even lukewarm on the heatsinks! I dont understand it!
J Pearce Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 You run them up in a ventilated workshop. On monitor duties for rock bands they sit in front of a very hot crowd with hot stage lights pointed at them, floor-cans nearby, etc...

Sir PA Super Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 I'm looking to buy a stage monitor or two for use with a solo singer singing with backing tracks.initially I was gonna buy a dynacord am12 but I'm now thinking of getting a pair of mackie srm350's to use as monitorsand if anything went wrong with my amps etc these would be a good back up.I've also seen various other stage monitor options i.e. db technolies, carlsboro, wharfdale etc.I use eaw jfx290 speakers as mains and these seem very resistant to feedback so I don't want to get something too cheapthat might give me alot of feedback problems.any thoughts of the best way forward or the pro's and cons of using active speakers as monitors? As a retailer, user and hirer; I'm always looking for new options. Just this very day I've sold a pair of the very new in MY Audio Lunaris 10M's which come in both an active & passive flavour. They make them from 8" - 15" and we've been really impressed with the ones we've heard so far. Other compact ideas are SR Technology's Mon-Baby and Mon-X and of course the EAW VRM12's which are lovely sounding.Personally I'm sick of both using and hearing people say about using a plastic box on it's side. Although yes, they are multi-purpose they're not designed with just monitoring in mind wheras the above are and the MY Audio and the EAW are co-axial and compact and the SR Technology's are a powered box with a passive slave -which some people like.
turbolight Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 i.e. db technolies, carlsboro, wharfdale etc. Hey there, whatever you do dont get wharfdale, as you have mentioned you dont want to get cheap.so I don't want to get something too cheapthat might give me alot of feedback problems. Thats cheap tack to be honest I wouldnt go near them, mackie yes, db certainly, not sure on carlsboro becasue I haven't came across these befor and do not know what they are like, capable of HTH Chris
