Grand MA Effect - Flickering pendant light

Hi All,

Just a quick request to see if anyone happens to have a pre-programmed effect for flickering (think of a scene in a bomb shelter with bombs falling overhead, a pendant light is swinging and flickering on and off).

A long shot but if anyone has a Grand MA effect programmed that will achieve this, I would be most greatful before I spend ages programming a chase to achieve the same thing.

Thanks

Does the light have to be on steadily at any time as well? If not, rather than doing it with a chase, build yourself a "flicker box" - fluorescent light starter in series with the lightbulb - and you'll get a true random flicker. If it does have to be on steadily at any point, you could build a switch into the box so you can choose whether the florry starter is in the circuit or not.

Maybe I'm just lazy, but how long could this really take? Even with something as chase un-friendly as an ETC Express, I could knock out something in far less than "ages"...

The "Dimmer Random" effect, with a bit of tweaking, might do as you require but you will probably find it easier just to make a chase - it shouldn't take more than about 10 minutes to knock one out.

Thanks for the replies. Looked at the various options and ended up just putting together a chase with several dozen different scenes with a few variations of values and by setting the speed to high/ selection to random.

GridGirl - Thanks for the suggestion. Did not have the time to investigate further but sounds useful for the future. I will endeavour to add that to the list of projects to attempt.

FragMe - I spent quite a while trying to refine the "Dimmer Random" but could not really get it to produce the desired effect for some reason.

Woody74 - "Ages" was over-exaggerating it somewhat, of course it did not take long at all. Thanks for your help.

Thanks again.
