Sam_Lowers
Hi All. Just looking for some help. I have been approached with regards to some advice on lasers but was not able to help so I felt it would be best to come to you all! The venue in question would be a Indoor Sports Hall - approx 60m,30m,12m. What they were asking me was with regards to,"Do I know any particular lasers that will be good enough for this size space that can create side to side waves about 2/3m above an standing audience's heads." They are looking for both green and blue lasers that must be DMX controlled, not sound to light. I said to them that as I do not know that I shall put it to the forum and get some advice, then I can read up on it myself and pass on the relevant information. Please let me know:- What you think?- Any limitations that you know?- Any particular products or manufacturers, Spectrum UK Lasers etc.- If you know anywhere in the south west, preferably near the Bristol or Bath area that they can be hired from. Sorry if there has already been a post about this but the search function wouldn't work on my laptop so I decided to post. Any input will be greatly appreciated! Ike
The only systems I've had any experience with other than huge water cooled jobbies have been RiLL which I've been fairly happy with. The amount of power you'll need will depend hugely on the ambient lighting and atmospherics. A dark room with a decent even haze and something like the RiLL1000 should do the job but increase the ambient lighting or get rid of the haze and even a RiLL5000 will be barely visible. live
Try Laserelectronics (www.laserelectronicsltd.com) What your really need is a decent ILDA rgb Dpss laser (no water supply needed) For a blue laser you will need rgb as "3 colour lasers" (rgy) only have red and green tubes (diodes) in.The only way round this would be a single green and a single blue laser but for the size of your venue and the output you require it would be more cost effective to hire a complete package including an operator. Without seeing the venue and just going off the dimensions given and not other lighting that is been used in the venue I would suggest a minimum spec of a 1W rgb ILDA Dpss laser for it to be effective with a 2w upwards been ideal. Well placed mirrors and mirrorballs in the venue can add substantially to the effect, also have you thought about uses a lasernet? There is enough headroom to use one and having "3d" images above peoples heads always amazes people. One thing to remember is to use blackout on all the other fixtures whilst using the laser so they won't "wash out" the lasers output.Regardsg
PocketJem
You ought to check out photonlexicon.com, the forum is based soleley around lasers and has many UK members. There are one or two operators around your area and if you ask the same question there I'm sure you'll get a suitable response. I think your best bet initially would be to hire a laser and operator, green lasers are pretty cheap nowadays, but decent power blue is still VERY expensive.
