dj mixers & 12 volt dc

Recommended Posts

Numarks CD mix models 1 2 & 3 are marked on input as 12 volt DC. Mains adapter supplied.

Any reason why these units could not therefore be run direct from leisure batteries?

CD mix 1 12 volt dc 2.5amp.

CD Mix 3 12 volt dc 3.00amp.

Numark insist that the CD mix3 (preferable as it supports mp3 playback) may boot up, but would not run. Commenting that all models needed an AC supply.

Wanting to run pure 12 volt dc dj rig to enable use of solar panels, batteries, without need for inverters (lots of interference unless buying expensive pure sine wave models), to keep to low power requirments of outdoor H&S use, & because it will get us more gigs if we can say 12 volt DC.

Any comment/advice gratefully receievd.

We've only just had a CDmix 1 in for service and I can't just remember whether that was marked DC or AC. However a battery can certainly be used in place of a 12V adapter, bear in mind that under fault conditions the current available will be so much more from a battery so make sure it's appropriately fused to prevent a major fire risk.

I have repaired a few of the Numark players - and normally run them from a bench power supply. They should work very well from a 12 volt battery - but as already mentioned - feed via a fuse! From memory I think that they function OK down to 9 volts - and a fully charged battery (13.8 volts) shouldn't be a problem either as all the voltage rails inside the unit are regulated.

Can't imaging why Numark thought it wouldn't work?!!

Thanks for the comments.

Checked the specs again. CD Mix3 runs 12 volt dc . 3 amp.

fused feed requirement noted.

Now can I persuade a mate with CDmix to give it a go before I buy one?

Good point about the makers not wanting to be liable for any info given beyond the parameters of what they designed for, whether the proposed alternative method of power supply is realistic or not.
