You're right, there is a "full override" rocker switch and I checked this to see if it was on. Sadly it wasn't the culprit.

 

I'm not sure but I think we've also got the odd socket that's permanently off too. Ah well, another task for the engineer!

You are doing the right thing getting someone to look at these for you,

 

Pulsar Dimmers are some of the easyest to fix but best to get help

the circuits that are off could be triacs as well as they can fail open or closed circuit but these could just as easly be a cable/wiring fault.

 

ps. triacs for pusar dimmers can be cheaply got from RS but don't try to fit yourself If as you suggest you are not up to this kind of job.
