Bryson Posted March 20, 2004 Posted March 20, 2004 Reading L&Si today, and I came across this little snippet: At the same time, HES' stated aim is to focus its energies on digital lighting, lessening its dependence on electro-mechanical products..."We're advancing the digital and software products with less dependence on the electro-mechanical products." Not a lot of reading between the lines there says Catalyst Media Server is the future, and moving lights are not the market for High End anymore, perhaps? It also mentions another spate of people leaving the company, this time on the High End side of the pond, including Mike Wood, former Chief Technology Officer, the VP of Worldwide Marketing and members of the R&D team. All this after the mass exodus from the Flying Pig end of the company. Interesting times indeed at High End..
RoyF18 Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 High End were at the Trade Show here (RSAMD) over the last couple of days and they seemed very keen to be promoting their digital media effects. They had none of their "conventional" moving lights (if you know what I mean) - possibly because they would be competing with VLPS who were there also. However they had an impressive array of stuff - Catalyst Version 3, DL1 (digital moving light) ColorCommand, ColorMerge and the Wholehog PC (PC-based version of the Wholehog II console). I was impressed by what I saw, and High End obviously feels that getting one of the first feet in the door with digital media projection and control is a good idea (I reckon they're right). High End managed to do well in the moving light market by being one of the first well respected manufacturers although now I think that there are too many cheaper, options on the market (and most of the big stuff goes to packages from VLPS). I reckon they're gonna do the same with digital media and get in there early (with a big price tag) and drop the moving lights (not literally).
