the kid
We are doing "On The Town" in the summer and its designed to be "in a studio/rehearsal space pre the filming of the now famous film" And so wanting to start early with the difficult thing's we are looking for 4 film lanterns not too unlike this .http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/847/20234195.JPG or something like the modern arris. here, here and here. I might be able to get some P243's. p543's would be passable. The other thing is that as in the picture it needs a stand, it has not been mentioned if it should be movable. And of course being a college we are begging, borrowing and removing off the back of a truck to get thing, so cheep as possible. Thanks Tom
gareth
Patt.243s don't really have the look of what Mrs & Mrs Public would think of as 'film lights'. You might be best getting in touch with someone along the lines of Jim Laws (or a similar enthusiast with a collection of aesthetically-correct old lighting equipment) to see if they might be able to lend you something. "Something like the modern Arris" would be easier to get hold of, though. Renting them from a film/TV rental company may well prove to be quite expensive ... but we have a selection of Quartzcolor and Arri 5k fresnels in our lantern stock, and I'm sure we'd be happy to rent them to you (along with stands, and cabling if you want them to light up) at a rate which is more 'theatrical' than the broadcast facilities houses would probably want to charge you! PM me if you want more info ...

They might be 5k/10k what ever they need to work on 3k dimmers.
bruce
Earlier this week, I saw some (probably non-working) kit similar to that waiting to go into a skip. It's gone now. If only you'd posted this a week ago!
the kid
After early stage deliberation, it looks like the 243's will be the answer. The cost to actually GET the lanterns is FAR too much, and we have a local place who can give us 243's. The only thing is the stands. I'm still hunting for old stands "they should be like old mic bases, one solid base with a adjustable pole in the middle, that attaches to the lantern." the kid
I totally missed that post rob, but that is more than perfect. In other news I have just got some p243's off a local theatre as they don't use them any more. The only thing is stands, because of a 243's weight ( 14.5kg) my, now comically stupid, idea of dressing a mic stand is invalid. I might be getting some tank traps from said theatre, or a local hire place who I'm yet to ring, but so far looking across the net I cant find what I'm looking for - which is one of these but to fit 48mm bars. Are they available, Goggle does not seam to like the idea of them.
David A
You will find that a speaker stand is very close to what you need, just make a spigot to suit.
the kid
This is what I got in the end. Well 2 of those style stands and 2 other slightly more modern that JUST work.
