Sirch Sound
Hi, im looking for 3 tom mics, however I only have £150 at the most. So I have two options these from thomann or some sennheiser E604's from ebay, 3 for £120. Now I would probably say the ones from ebay are fakes, but are they still worth it, considering they cost about £120 each from the shops. Do you know of any other options? Im not fussed about second hand, but ideally I want this sort of clamp on it to clap onto the rim of the drum, however I can adapt the mics with some aftermarket brackets. Ben Langfeld
E604s are nowhere near £120 each new. Sennheiser E604 on Thomann Can you not buy second hand?
dunk_1984
Well how good are the drum kits you work with and how good is the rest of the system? I mean if you could manage the investment then 3 Audix D2's would be nice but if they are being used with cheapo dodgy kits there's no point. Alternatively if you can get away with it, the cheapo ones until you can afford some nicer mic's. It's all down to what you will use them for(Obviously drums, but are you expecting the bands to be reckless), how long is the life cycle and if you want quality or budget. Or as Ben has pointed out 604's aren't that expensive and will be more than adequate most of the time.
Rob_Beech
But the OP said on ebay 3 for £120. not sure where they are though......
Sirch Sound
These are kind of 'disposible' as a sort. I need them for a gig next week and I need a few tom mics for it, any use after this is kind of a bonus. I know it kind of sounds stupid but I need them for this gig and thats about all I have to spend atm. Rich
dunk_1984
Then why not hire? Costing a couple of quid each.
Rob_Beech
Surely you can hire 3 at a nice price from your place of work.
Sirch Sound
Yes I probably could, however I just feel that it will be more cost effective to buy and use for a few months then replace, maby im way off track but it just seemed easier at the time. Here is the link for those sennheiser E604's off ebay, there from america so import duties may come into play but overall they should be quite a bit cheaper. I carnt find the current auction for them but here is one iv been watching. What do you think? What are your opinions on E604's in general? CheersRich
MarkPAman
These seem to be a good price. Anybody used them?
Rob_Beech
I don't see them being a deal cheaper once you take everything into account. They're about £50 + vat a piece from the UK. to pay £120 for 3, you'd have to get them shipped here, that might cost another £20, then import duty is a completely unknown amount. Then you'd have to pay the VAT. And what good is a 10 year warranty? If they go wrong, it's going to cost a fortune to send them back and turn them around. Annoyingly, a set of 5 went on ebay last week for £220, if the buyer is a member on here, I'd like to point out that I don't like you Rob
StevieR
E604's are great tom mics. They will eventually die, though - being at the mercy of less-than-accurate drummers - and then you throw them away. As another cheaper option, without risking fakes, how about the Shure PG56 Tom Mics. Similar-ish to the Beta56A but one hell of a lot cheaper. You should be able to pick these up for around £50 each inc vat. Even comes with a mic cable! Steve
Sirch Sound
Wow, I think I might just get 3 of the E904's cosidering there that price! Thats amazing! Do you know how long this deals on for? CheersRich EDIT: I have just tryed adding some to my basket and it says there discontinued, anyone know anything?
Ben Langfeld
Why not just spend £20 to hire them? If it's a one off then there's no sense in buying.
Rob_Beech
How many are you hiring? 7? </ sneaky indirect shameless plug > Agreed that hiring is a better option for just a few uses. but 904's at that price you can't go wrong. You simply have to weigh up how much use they will get and if you will be HIRING them out or just using them on gigs you do. If they are being HIRED out then they'll earn money, they'll pay for themselves, hopefully rather quickly. If on the other hand you charge as a complete system and don't take individual items into account. then it often doens't matter if you buy a £150 mic or a £23 mic, and whilst you earn money, it's difficult to really say, these are paying for themselves. Sirch Sound
At the moment they are not being hired out seperatly, just as a complete package. However im going to be hiring them out seperatly shortly so it will probably be worth it to buy some, as long as im bying decent ones, im only saying this as those E904's are so cheap, as long as they still have some left!
