benweblight
I'd recommend a Jester ML 24, or if you don't need moving light control a Jester 24/48, especially if you are coming from a frog; should be fairly easy for new users to pick up as well. If you can get a monitor for it, it will be beneficial, but by no means essential.
steve h
multiple problems involving it freezing so I have no control over anything but the go button unless I turn it on and off again. The faders internal connections are going which I can live with except for the last show I did were the playback master just stopped working and everything went dark plus a dodgy vga output. these could hopefully be fixed ideally but I feel I may be forced into buying a new desk for the software issues, have you tried either updating or reinstalling the latest OS
peter
Hi Beaver I'd suggest giving Keith a call at the office on 01633 838088 and give him a description of the faults - he'll give you an idea of the cost of the repair and arrange for it to be returned if necessary. If you really want to replace the desk, I'd recommend looking at the Jester 24/48, which will give you the familiarity of the Frog with some of the nice new features - USB ports and online help, to name just two. List price on a 24/48 is £1099, so well within budget. If you need any more help or advice, don't hesitate to contact me :)
Simon Lyall
Mr Taylor, before you suddenly waste a load of peoples time, I suggest you go through the routes that you already have at your school. Speak to Gradav, your local hire company and they will be able to sort out repair/replacement. Or... speak to me! Seems like you are making a mountain out of a mole hill. Last time you told me your desk was completely broken, it turned out to be dirty faders, is this still the case? If so, it's a fairly easy fix. If Gradav are no help... talk to the guys at Zero88 (as they said above) they are nice friendly people... and don't bite (apart from when they eat). Do the Busary know of your problems? I will be speaking to them about it in a few weeks when I come in, I'm sure they would love to know. As helpful as the blue-room are... there are many more, quicker answers around if you use your resources, also people like Gradav and myself, know your situation... the blue-room don't without you explaining it. tokm
Definitely echo Simon's comments about going through the right channels.. Always the best thing to do, specially in a school situation where there are people responsible for dealing with such matters, rather than students like yourself who's only job, per say, is to inform them of problems with the equipment your just using. Just to ask, where did your figure of £2k come from? Highly doubt anything on this desk could cost that much to fix! Sudden freezing up of desks does tend to be a software thing, sounds like all the desk needs is a good service, including a reloading/updating of the OS. Just my 2p. Mr.TG
We've recently had our Fat Frog repaired after somebody gave it a drink of Coke (they don't like it, seems to be some sort of allergy!). Had 2 boards, several faders, and all 3 wheels replaced, and a software update, for less than £500 inc. VAT, collection and delivery.
ianknight
It would also be worth bearing in mind (as someone who sees Frogs in all states that need 'repair' or 'upgrade') that the most common problem is the battery needing replacement - certainly true if the desk is three or more years old - and the OS needs upgrading. The latter you can do yourself, the Zero website has the files - your biggest headache in a school will be finding a PC with a floppy drive! Before anyone else mentions it too - format the floppy disk you will use on the desk - just to save a bit less hassle! It's certainly worth having someone look at the desk from a service point of view - we have Frogs we installed 6-7 years ago still going strong!! smalljoshua
The School I attend also has a Frog and Although it is over 6 years old now we have never had any problems with it apart from needing a Software Upgrade from 1.2.1 to 10.9.1 and a new battery. It has never been better. Stick with the Frog, spend the mony left over after the repair on somthing else. Josh
