Take a look at at an ETC expression 24/48. Don't know the price, but they are a decent board and seems ideal for what you want.

I would whole heartily recommend the Zero 88 Jester (24/48 channel version). Very easy to program and use, has all the features you might want, ideal for a school (where I use one!). steve h
If your use to a frog the zero88 jester will be easy to pick up again without having to learn a new desk from scratch, however I have heard lots of good things about the etc desks as well. I would recommend trying to get your hands on some desks, probably through travelling around to various training events, to find out whats best for you! And do be prepared to have lots of posts recommending lots of different desks...a nice can of worms has been opened! Steve

Any chance you may need more channels in the future? What is wrong with the Frog? They are not that old, perhaps a bit of TLC wold sort it at less cost? J Pearce
So you want something that'll do busking, but has a good cue-stack. Tbh, I'd stick with the frog range. As much as I dislike the Frog, Zero88 are used to dealing with schools and they suit the task well at the right price range.
steve h
asian dance show - I work in a school but not done one of them before. I understand about the lack of time to set up, I often try and work out how I can make one design work for many uses when I know ive got a few shows back to back...its amazing how just changing a few gels or gobos havea huge effect, and save alot of time in the long run! Good luck with High School Musical! Steve

OK so it seems the original, or newer frog ranges are well suited. I'm really serious about looking at repairing your frog. I don't think you will get anything genuinely better for the budget, a repair may be cheaper, and if you are cleaver & lucky, you may be able to spend money on something more useful. Aside from: It's called an Express 24/48. The Expression 3 is a much more expensive desk running the same software. Oh, and it costs £3000....so 50% over budget. Smartfade sounds more like what the OP was after.

Richardfixing it would be ideal but the school I work in will probably push for a replacement without understanding or lighting systems or requirements but that is a whole other can of worms sorry but how does steve H know I am doing High School Musical Is There a logically explanation or do I have a stalker
richard_cooper
fixing it would be ideal but the school I work in will probably push for a replacement without understanding or lighting systems or requirements but that is a whole other can of worms Can you describe the faults with your Frog? Has Zero88 been consulted about it? They are really helpful guys! Too often in schools, equipment is thrown out when a reapair would work. If it's simple then you could use this thread as evidence. The faders internal connections are going which I can live with except for the last show I did were the playback master just stopped working and everything went dark plus a dodgy vga output. these could hopefully be fixed ideally but I feel I may be forced into buying a new desk
