Gerry
I'm trying to put together a cheap backstage communications system.I'm using a Maplin stereo mixing console, input for 3 microphones, and a Behriinger Ha400 micro amp, output for 4 headsets.Plugging in a headset with microphone via the 2 jack plugs works OK.I wanted to replace the 2 jack plugs with a 3 pin XLR. To make use of the theatres existing XLR cables. This introduces a lot of buzzing in the headset.I have connected the earth from the headphones and the earth from the microphone together to fit the 3pin XLR.The earths for input and output on the console are common so why am I getting buzzing?Obviously missing something very basic CheersGerry
Shez
I'm not convinced it'll work like that. The standard three wire system consists of ground, power and an unbalanced (line level ish) signal bus. It sounds like you're trying to send an unbalanced mic signal down the XLR cable which will likely pick up a load of induced mains hum.
