stagemonkey1000
For many broadway shows, set pieces come on and off by themselves. What is the easiest way to do this? What do they use?

J Pearce
If possible its easiest to do it with stage hands. I spent most of one christmas crawling behind a truck, though it was motorised (I had a motor pickle in my hand). If not, cables can be recessed into tracks in the stage floor and the trucks can be pulled on the cables. The cables may be on a motor or on a pulley system similar to a curtain track. For complex movements a truck could be made into a giant remote control car, like the boat in Phantom of the Opera.
mac.calder
Behind the set pieces. The other way is by installing a false stage floor, and running tracks through said floor. Cable runs in a loop through the tracks, ending up back at hand winches in the wings. Scenery is attached to the cable, and two stage hands wind like buggery to get the scenery in. dbuckley
This is, of course, a subject previously discussed in the Blue Room, so a look here may help. Also, take a look at this and this.
