Racer_Rob
My secondary school has a Frog zero desk, I want to connect an external monitor to it as I have a complex show coming up and it would help for organising submasters/chase etc.I can't get a school desktop monitor at the moment so was wondering if it's possible to use a laptop? Do you need any extra software? Thanks (If this can't be done and I somehow get a desktop monitor can you simply connected it to the desk (i.e. you don't need to tell the desk to output to the monitor not its own display...or anything else like that))
alphaleader
Hey there, I think you might struggle there, laptops usually don't have a video IN (i.e. VGA IN) port. I'm in a similar situation, my 6th form college just bought a Fat Frog, but we've got a VGA monitor. All you have to do is plug the monitor in the back of the board, there isn't any extra setup required. It should be noted that it doesn't have to be a very good monitor i.e. it doesn't have to show a high resolution. Hope this helps, A. :) My secondary school has a Frog zero desk, I want to connect an external monitor to it as I have a complex show coming up and it would help for organising submasters/chase etc.I can't get a school desktop monitor at the moment so was wondering if it's possible to use a laptop? DSA
Just connect any LCD/CRT monitor to the VGA port. You cannot easily use the laptop screen. I guess it might be possible in theory with some sort of data capture card, but is certainly a lot of faff!
twiggy
It is possible but its far to much effort and would cost a lot more than buying a cheap vrt or even lcd screen. If you don't have any spare cash then you can pick up old crt's ridiculously cheaply if you look around.
Stuart91
You only need something capable of displaying 800x600. I'm pretty sure if you look hard enough in some of the darker corners of your school, there'll be a suitable monitor lurking somewhere. Or ask around - many people have one in the attic. As a last resort, do you have a flatscreen you could bring from home?
Racer_Rob
As a last resort, do you have a flatscreen you could bring from home?oh I wish :) good thinking though A laptop would have been convinient as it's nice and portable but, some of the ICT rooms were upgraded last year so I'll find out if they left any of those old monitors behind, the kind that go back half a mile behind the screen! Cheers for all the help everyone :)
nicemms
Couldn't you just persauade your school to buy a TFT for the board as a permant thing. They are about £80 for a basic 17", which in the overal scheme of things isn't much.
