enbee
hey everyone, bit of background first, we currently have an av system that consists of 3 eventix units controlled by the show manager software which feeds 3 Sanyo XF46 projectors. These are edgeblended to display on a screen that is 33ft by 9ft. We then also run 2 individual projectors from an octo unit (4:3 ratio), a video wall and overflow feeds to 3 other venues on site. We have a total of 8 inputs. so.... Currently, its taking a lot of work just to maintain this and make it look as good as it should. The main problems that we are having is in the blends and colour matching but it just isn't as versatile as I'd like it to be. I'm aware that stepping up to dlp's will make a massive difference from the colour point of view but what I'm wondering is how much of a difference using spyder rather than eventix will make Is there anyone who has experience of using the spyder system who can advise on how well it deals with blending and how user friendly it is. as you might have guessed, my knowledge of the spyder system is limited, and I'm still waiting to hear back from christie (who I believe are the uk distributor) any info would be much appreciatted thanks edited because my broken thumb seems to be affecting my typing abilities more than I thought
lukemh
hi not a user of the Vista system but I guess we will probably give you the same reply. LCD Projectors are hard to match and will come out of sync very easily. hence when edge blending we try to use at least single chip and preferably 3 chip DLP. This may be your problem Luke
enbee
hey, thanks for the fast reply. We know we are definatly going to have to go to the DLP's (probably looking barco but depends on the £££££) our eventix stystem is just so complex from a wiring point of view, and its been no end of problems so I want to overhaul the whole lot thanks for your input

colinmonk
If you want any information on the Spyder System I would reccomend talking to Joys Productionswww.joys.com They have a good stock of this stuff and are very good at using it... Have seen some very impressive things done with the Spyder System, and comparing it to some other systems available I personally think this wins... Hope this helpsColin --edit--Actually just spotting where you are from, a conference for a large electrical retail outlet hit your venue last year (mentioning no names) and the production company bought in a Spyder System to run your 3 projectors on your large screen, and managed to (quite spectacularly if you dont mind me saying) match all 3 of your projectors together... It was Joys who supplied the Spyders for this event...
enbee
Thanks for all of this people I've arranged a demo for friday so I'll let you know how this goes. As a bit of an add on question, anyone got any recommendations for montage 2 vs shotbox to control with? Thanks again
viktorkr
Thanks for all of this people I've arranged a demo for friday so I'll let you know how this goes. As a bit of an add on question, anyone got any recommendations for montage 2 vs shotbox to control with? Thanks again We had the same dillema two years ago, we allready have had Eventix system, which was doing really nice job, but of course with pretty complicated setup. After we saw Spyder live and had the chance to touch it and feel it, dillema was over and Spyder was in our warehouse in two weeks. Excellent product and really amazing what you can do with 344 model, one laptop, and matrix switchers. Blending is of course much much easier and better, specially with 3chip DLP. I am sure you will see this at friday..... cheers, viktor

enbee
hey everyone, We saw a demo yesterday and have to say I'm very impressed. Absolutly loving the fact that it can trigger video from other devices, and the number of keys over pips you can do. Only downside is the fact that over two units, the first outputs will only see the first inputs but the second outputs will see all the inputs. That and I didn't realise that the ops monitor takes up one of your outputs Thanks for all the advice people, I'll let you know what we decide

Johnparrack
vista spyder and christie projs are a great way to go...the encore unit is also very good...but u could go the screenpro and blendpro route..Wouldn't consider Watchout because it is now an old product (Pre Barco Viewscape and out just after Blitz launced Suite -P), and is really only a graphics only solution, as video timing across soft edges is difficult to get right. Getting the colour right across blends is all down to: 1.) Control of gamma curve over the blend 2:) Lamps matching resonably well (very important with dvi inputs) 3. projectionist having good eye for a balance.. The cheap option is to use internal blending within the projectors ie Christie/Barco Synergix/ Panasonics...might add some delay though. thats my 2 pence worth...only done a few hundred blends over the years, so not very knowledgeable :P
