Martin PRO 812

I have just taken down a Martin 812 as it doesnt seem to be working properly.

I have removed it from the rig and powered it up, it completes the startup procedure but then don't do nothing else.

It doesnt respond to DMX nor work on any of the 'auto' settings (music trigger and auto trigger).

Is it likely to be the PCB or is there any other things to check first??

Steve.

Hi. No I havent replaced the lamp. So not too sure if it works. But dont want buy a new lamp if the thing is dead.

It does the initial checks and motor alignments... ie mirror to top right corner. No lamp ignite (but might be because it isnt recieving the signal to strike)

It wont respond to DMX or on any of the auto settings.

By the sounds of things your best bet would be to pay someone to look at it. Get in touch with your local Martin dealer, they will probably make an initial charge to look at it and report back to you what is wrong with the unit. That way you'll know how much it will cost to repair and if it is worth doing.

You said you took it down from a rig?? is there not any more in it you could pop one of the bulbs out of and test it?? I've not had any of the 812's but a lot of my other lights will run through the set up fine then if the bulb doesnt strike will shut down or read an error message. Im getting advice on a MH660 right now on here and it does that. If your after cheaper bulbs see if xenpow do a alternative bulb I've just discovered them and there a lot cheaper than the philips etc. If not I agree get it bench tested by a dealer they dont go for a lot of money the 812's so I can understand your reluctance to spend much on it. If not keep it for spares as it sounds like all the stepper motors are in good shape.

Unusual! Can you instigate the self-test mode? How clean is the board? Sometimes these older Roboscans suffer from rotted-through pcb tracks due to smoke/sweat/condensation, these can give rather incongruous results. Obviously the CPU is alive as it's resetting ok, and the DMX receiver is probably ok because it's just as inactive in the auto-trig mode. Check for tarnished pins on the IC's around the CPU (MPU)..they're usually on a socket. Check the DIP switches are working and not stuck on an empty DMX channel.

I will bring it back and have a look properly at the insides and report back.

In relation to the last message, the mirror sits in the top right position, (where it goes after the stepper motor test) So no it dont go to the middle. It does seem a bit tense as most of them do when on. But as soon as the power is turned off, it goes loose again.

If it successfully goes through it's reset cycle then it should set to the home position I think, i.e. face straight forward at 50% tilt. Will try and remember to double check that when I see our 812s in action tomorrow.

Knackered lamps won't stop an 812 doing anything except for emitting light, they're not clever enough to tell what the lamp is doing. The lamp going can often take the main fuse out as the HTI 150s (or is it 152s?) can explode in pretty spectacular fashion, but if that happens it won't power up at all.
