Guest
I am designing the lighting for our schooll 'Battle of The Bands' event,we have a basic system made up of generics on 18 dimming channels. We also have 12 LED par cans along the front to was the stage but they don't do a good job if any other lights are turned on. The desk is an LC2412 made by Behringer. and we have VERY limited power to use. However, I have had an offer from a hire company to come to the school and bring the equipment left in their warehouse that is not being used plus a desk which we would book. I have experience of using moving light with a Pearl and Hog 500 and Hog 2. I all I need to know is what sort of thing would be best on a setup that is so limited with power. We do NOT have a budget to worry about because it is free. power:3x 32a single (currently used on dimmers but we could spare one)8x 13a
HobitLight
There's some info in the Lighting FAQ:- http://www.blue-room.org.uk/wiki/Lighting_...k.29_Concert.3F
maeterlinck
If the company will lend you 6 250w moving spots and a desk then you'll be well away for a decent show. That'll all run off 1 13a socket and would probably be enough to think about. Stick the LED pars around the stage and use them to look pretty I doubt they will light much up. Guest
thanks really helpful.just thought that maybe some (6 or 8)chromabanks would be good along the back of the stage upright on tank traps.does anyone have much experience as to what this will look like. paulears
Things at the back look good, but wasn't your problem that the stage was dark (the LEDS washing the stage being washed out??)
Guest
no, sorry I may have not made it clear.we have plenty of generics that light the stage well but nothing is left for colours so the the school thought it would be clever to buy 12 cheap led par56. These are so weak that they are only visible when the other lights are off!thanks for your advice though
James Remo
The colour from the Led's would get washed out by the tungsten source easily, but would be good eye candy pointed at the audience from behind the band, in a similar idea to the chroma banks. I have used chromabanks vertically on tank traps, with 2 cell molfay interspaced among the vertical banks for added fun. A handy tip to with the banks when using the in-built chases is the directional wipes have forward and reverse directions next to each other on the chase select attribute. Sending some forward and some back gives nice results. 9ch mode gives you two sets of inbuilt chases that can be overlaid, and overlaying a colour on a chase (especially the open white chases) modifies the pattern with a bias to the colour you overlay. Edit - If you get a Pearl the personality for the banks that avo built has the chase level attribute as ltp, so dropping the fader doesn't loose the chase from the stage. You can either progran the in built chases as mode 2 memories or I built a personality with htp for this attribute. Jonny DMX
power:3x 32a single (currently used on dimmers but we could spare one)8x 13a Is this all the power you have? ie is this for the sound and band as well or is this just for the lighting? If it is just is just for the lighting you have no problem. All the LED pars will run off one 13A. You could then get 14 Mac250s easily off the other 7 13A supplies. This would be more than enough for this style of event. You may want to check that all of the 13A circuits are off different ring mains otherwise you could overload the circuits. It has the potential to look great.
Guest
the power listed is just for lighting and we could probably find some more power somewhere as well. we do have 2 63a single about 5 metres away in the drama studios but the school doesnt want to have cables outside, even with Tred Track and they wont put any more power in for dimmers, strobes etc. either. I have an appointment on wednesday with a LD from the company and he was going to help me with the circuits etc.thanks for the advice
david.elsbury
Don't forget that even though you may have 8x 13A supplies, that doesn't neccesarialy mean that you are able to pull 104A from them. You may not be able to use them all to full load at once- a question for a sparky.
Guest
sory for asking for more advice but I'm not a qualified rigger in anyway so I'm hoping some one that is can answer this question. can I ratchet strap truss to a RSJ and then use spansets as backup?(I am not allowed to hang the truss for some unknown reason)
dunk_1984
You can't use ratchet straps, NO. But if the RSJ has a load rating for suspending from then you can spanset from it, within the load limits.
Ynot
sory for asking for more advice but I'm not a qualified rigger in anyway so I'm hoping some one that is can answer this question. can I ratchet strap truss to a RSJ and then use spansets as backup?(I am not allowed to hang the truss for some unknown reason)Considering the potential risks involved, I'd advise STRONGLY that you consult with the hire co who's loaning the gear and see if they have a QUALIFIED rigger who can advise ON SITE what you can and cannot do with the truss. Anything less in this sort of situation and you're taking one HELL of a risk with other people's safety.....
