acoustic guitar microphone

I have recently started doing sound for our acoustic night at Leicester Uni. We are using a small opus rig for the FOH and my LX7. I have some SM58 beta's for vocals and some sm57 beta's available for other sources along with a Red 5 audio drum mic package (RVK7 set with the RV4 condensors).

So to the point:

What microphone do people suggest for acoustic guitar's?

I have been using a sm57 beta but I quite often get feedback issues. On Monday I connected a spectrum analyser to see what frequency's were giving me issue's (100hz ish) so I could notch them out. This work ok, but it affected the sound too much along with me still not getting an ideal gain from the channel.

So has anyone got any advice.

Cheers

Mike

A lot of engineers will groan when given a guitar without pickups as mic-ing them live is frequently problematic. For recording, a mic is always the way to go but for live, whilst a mic can give a better sound, a DI is a lot easier to work with for a whole host of reasons.

I assume it's the main downstairs room you're in? I seem to recall its acoustics aren't really ideal for live music in there but the drapes behind the stage will certainly help. Are there still DJ monitors slung on the truss on either side of the stage? If so, you are turning these off aren't you?
