vbm
Hey Blue Roomerinos- Don't you just love short notice jobs..? A client has just asked me to source and quote for some pretend neon for a tour that starts a week on Sunday... They want to put this "neon" on two keyboard X-stands and the singer's mic stand (which will be an angled stand). They want it to be yellow. It can't be real neon 'cos it'll be outrageously expensive to have it custom made in a week and will undoubtedly get broken. My initial thought was Showtec LED tube (this stuff http://www.highlite.nl/index.php/highlite/...light/led_tubes ) but this isn't available within the deadline. My other thought is Pulsar Chromastrip (this stuff http://www.pulsarlight.com/Products/LEDLig...GB/Default.aspx ) but this is considerably more expensive and seems overcomplicated given that all they want to do is make them yellow. Does anybody have any other ideas or suggestions for tour-durable pretend yellow neon? Thanks in anticipation...
andylights
An LED neon rope light sounds like the sort of thing you are after.... http://www.ledwaves.com/home.php?cat=23 One of loads courtesy of Google... Regards, Andy
Ynot
Or maybe try EL (Electro Luminescent) wire like this...
J Pearce
EL wire is hardly tour proof though...
vbm
... and EL wire is nowhere near fat enough either! Thanks for the suggestions people, we've gone for good old fashioned yellow ropelight, fifty quid done and dusted. We don't hang about in the world of rock'n'roll! VBM. Nick512
I would actually disagree I have found that EL wire is very tourable and have used a good few times to replicate neon. For future Reference the company Live wire http://www.livewireent.com/ can supply this in different diameters up to around 5mm so you can get a real neon look and after touring it for over a year in different staging pieces I can tell you it can take a hell of a beating...
