simduv
This is a real novice post so bear with me.... I am primarily a lighting tech but the venue I am workinh in has developed a problem with the sound system, to put it in its most basic terms..... when the QSC Amps reach there 'clipping' level and the Red LEDs illuminate, the amp powers down. The cooling fans appear to be working fine and when the amp is powered up the sound quality is fine and the output level is where it should be..... I have been advised that the volume pots on these AMPs quite frequently get dry joints to the boards but I have checked this and all seems fine... Any suggestion muchly appreciated and thanks for bearing with me... Simon
PoppaDom
It sounds to me like the amps are performing as intended. You shouldn't drive amps into clipping for a number of reasons all of which a quick search will reveal. Poppadom
StevieR
When they reach the clip point, do the lights stay red for a period of time or do the simply flash occasionally as the music peaks? If the former, then the amp is doing as intended and protecting itself. In this case you need to look at the operation of the system and perhaps invest in a larger amp. If the amp is cutting out when the signal momentarily clips then you need to get this looked at. Steve
greenalien
When were the amps last cleaned / serviced? Build-up of dirt on the heat sinks can cause overheating.
djandydee
I have quite a few QSC PLX amps and have noticed that if the supply volts drop, these amps will shut down to protect themselves as they approach clipping. With a good healthy supply, I can drive them hard into the clip limiters without any problems for long periods of time. Make sure your mains cable is heavy enough. In saying that, why would this have changed. I assume this fault has just appeared. I would go along with one of the previous answers and check the heatsinks are clean. Club environments are quite dusty. TaAndyD
