Big Jay
Hi, I am designing a show in April, but the theatres dimmers are analogue which run of a Sirius24, I want to run movers in the show and have decided to hire a Strand520 control desk. I am aware that there is a piece of equipment that can allow me to control the dimmers and the movers from the strand. Can anyone help me on this and explain what it is and how I use the piece of equipment Many ThanksTosh
sparkyweb
You just need to ask for a DMX - Analogue converter. This box converts the DMX signals into a + (or minus) 10v signal. Make sure you let the hire company know what dimmers (and how many) you are using.
bruce
...commonly known as a "demux". Have a search for that through this forum - there's lots of informative material.
Zulu
We've just moved into a new theatre. From the old theatre, we have analog dimmers (4 x 6 channels each), and a Zero88 Alcora control desk. To get it all to work, I had to buy a Demux Box (Zero88 Demux24) and a couple of cables. Each dimmer connects to the 4 analog connections in the back of the Demux box (4 x 7 pin analog cables). The Demux box connects to the theatre DMX hard wiring with a 5 pin DMX cable. All this is 'backstage'. The desk connects to the theatre DMX hard wiring at the back of the auditorium, also with a 5 pin DMX cable. Hope this helps.
Sirch Sound
Is this performance in the theatre royal? Just I know they already have a 550i desk in there and the have old strand premus dimmers so there must be a demux in there sumwhere! Anyway if your interested in hire then give me a PM or give stage LX a ring, as where in tyneside and have a selection of them. Im not sure on prices but if your interested Il get you some. If the theatre is currently running a Sirius, chances are you will need a Demux that runs 0v to +10v, but check the dimmer specs!
GridGirl
Don't forget, for controlling movers, a 520i would make life a tad easier than the bog standard 520 ! Only because the trackball on the 520i is bigger - no other difference...

Any idea what I'm thinking of that looks like the 520 but doesn't have the attribute wheels?? Edit...just been corrected by a friend...it would appear I'm imagining things!
