deranged-angel
Good day all.Is there anyone out there that would mind answering a few questions about touring theatres? It's basically about designing for a space you have never seen and aimed at anyone and everyone!I tried to attach it to this but havn't quite figured out how. It just does something weird and brings up my questionnaire instead of attaching it. (im obviously doing something wrong) Anyway, please PM me and I will send it to you. As many people as possible please. ;) Thank you all very very much Emmaxxx
sam.henderson
If you upload it to the Web using something like geocities (which is free) then you can post a link here to the website by doing the following without spaces! gareth
Having looked at the questionnaire, I have a question - is it aimed at the lighting designers who light the original production, the production electricians who re-light the show on tour, or both? erroneousblack
Those of us who dwell down St Edwards Passage will happily answer your questions... when we get time! Which sums up regional weekly touring houses to a tee. (Which means don't expect a reply, we're not being rude we're just too busy.) ;)
Bryson
Also having read the questionnaire: It seems that it's pretty much aimed at touring theatre people - not venue based people like myself. Just so folks know.
MikeR
Also having read the questionnaire: It seems that it's pretty much aimed at touring theatre peopleTouring lampies & LDs to be precise but not really relevant to anyone else. ie without interpreting the questions there's little anyone else can reply. deranged-angel
Oh dear it seems I haven't explained myself very well ;) Ok1. It is aimed at touring theatres2. At lighting designers and set designers (you may only be able to answer questions relevant to you)3. The lighting designers are those with the touring company. I am going on tour with a youth theatre in uni. I am designing the set and part of the lighting for them but I have never seen the space that iw ill be working in. So, my research is how does the designing for a space you have never seen affect the design? There will be a rig set up by the theatre but I will take along some of my own lanterns, etc. Sorry people, I'm being very vague. p.s Did anyone find the tone of the questionnaie a little obnoxious? I just got an e-mail from a company whom I shall not name saying it had a 'snap to it' attitude. oops. I really didnt mean it like this. Sigh Emxxx
MikeR
Totally off topic sorry - but is that large video wall still installed in the cafe at Liverpool Hope ? I built the rack that sits behind that doing the processing etc. Just wondered...
deranged-angel
hey MikeYeah it's still there. There used to be a playstation linked up to it but it seems to have gone..... I will go and have a look at the rack next time I go in. Emxxx Oh yeah, one more thing:I am taking the tour to the brewery arts centre in Kendal. Anyone got any good info about the theatre? I asked for some plans 'cos I wanted to make a scale model of it but I got these rather vague sketches, unfortunately! Their website doesnt have anything and I'm gonna track down a copy og the british theatre guide 2004 which may have some info.
sam.henderson
Who did you ask for the plans? The theatre shold have very comprehensive Plans, Have you tried Model Box (part of White Light) they have plans for most theatres in all of the UK. Contact the RSM or Chief Spark he should have them Sam
gareth
Oh yeah, one more thing:I am taking the tour to the brewery arts centre in Kendal. Anyone got any good info about the theatre? I asked for some plans 'cos I wanted to make a scale model of it but I got these rather vague sketches, unfortunately! Their website doesnt have anything and I'm gonna track down a copy og the british theatre guide 2004 which may have some info.If I remember correctly, vague sketches are about all you can get for the Brewery (I've taken a couple of small-scale tours there over the years, but I can't find their info in my rather cumbersome file of venue specs at the moment ...). It's a slightly unusual venue in that there's no 'stage' as such - the front row of the auditorium just carries on at the same level all the way to the back wall of the performance area. The proscenium is made from moveable black hard masking flats, and there are quite a few bars for flying (winch for LX, hemp for set/masking). There's no fly tower, though. Wing space SR is quite limited, but there's a fair bit SL. FOH lighting positions are quite good, IIRC, and there's a decent stock of equipment. Desk is (or at least it used to be) an ETC Insight. deranged-angel
I will have a look at Model box, cheers.the sketches are really quite amusing...lots of diagonal lines on a piece of A3 paper! Dont make any sense at all and it's not just me being thick- none of my tutors could understand it either!! They have an Arri Focus. I think they are teh squarish grey boards with the wheel on the side. Oh I'm soooo descriptive! Thanks guys, will try to badger them and got some real plans. 'Tis about time they drew them up on CAD or something! Those plans are from '93! Emxxx
