Receiving Houses and Tours

Once again I come to ask you guys for help..

Next term at Central I will be working on my 'Practical Study Assignment', which is basically a paper project which allows me to look at the role of the Technical/Production Manager in different circumstances.

An area which really interests me is Technical Management roles in receiving houses and on tours, and how they compliment each other. So, in other words; what Technical Managers (or whatever they are called) do in receiving houses, and what they do on tours.

I would be really interested in visiting as many receiving houses and tours as possible, observing the work of TM's/PM's/RSM's.., and conducting interviews.

So now we're coming to the part where I ask you all favours... Would anyone who is working in a receiving house or on a tour from 19th April (or before!) to the end of June be willing to have me turn up, have a look round and ask some questions? Or failing that, be willing to fill out a questionnaire?

I'm trying to make the most of my student status by just asking to turn up! If I can't do it now when can I do it?!

This request might be more appropriate for private messaging, but I thought I'd put out a general post first.

Thanking you all in advance,

Rachel

Hi again all.

First of all thank you so much to everyone that's got back to me so far. I'm beginning to get everything sorted in my head and write questions for interviews etc.

Just to let you know that I now have a definite title for my project:

'Roles, Relationships and Responsibilities in Touring Theatre',

so if anyone has anything to contribute, or suggestions of particular things I could look at, let me know! I've got quite a few ideas already, but I'm always open to suggestion..!

Thanks guys,

Rachel

Your orignal post mentioned the role of the PM in different circumstances. I, perhaps incorrectly, took this to mean a wider scope than just touring theatre which is what your title seems to suggest. What I'm trying to say is - are you sure that your title & scope of works meets your project requirement or are you (quite legitimately) narrowing your scope? It may seem pernickity but one of the problems I always had when proposing course work to tutors (on a totally non industry related course) was that my proposed scope never met the requirements and had to be altered before I started. Additionally theres a whole world of tech work outside the theatre world and dealing with this in your project may earn you more points, of course it may not - Ive never done "stage" courses I have no idea :D

It happened to me by accident - oops.

This project is purposely geared towards looking at touring theatre etc. I think there's enough there to research to keep me going for a term! Once I've got past initial investigations of role allocation etc, there's differences in touring dance compared to theatre, different scales of theatre, and loads more things to think about.

I'm not saying that I'm going to narrow my interests completely, but this project is just focusing on one aspect.
