James
CPC do adaptors for less than the cost of the componants to make them yourself http://custom1.farnell.com/cpc_images/cpc2004/size3/CN06980-01.jpg(CPC CN0698066 or CN0698166) £2.31 ea, ex James
Thirdtap
The only problem with the barrel connectors is if they are used on a circuit board mounted socket, say the back of the desk they can put a lot of stress on the joints and lead to problems later. Use a short cable adapter then the new cable.
gareth
Hey, I have got a large production coming up next week and we need allot of 3pin-5pin adaptors. I was just wondering if you can make them yourself and if anybody could give me some instructions on how to make one???Very, very easy. Get yourself a 5-pin male and 3-pin female (or the other way around) and a short length of DMX cable ... the screen goes to pin 1 each end, the black (or equivalent) core to pin 2, and the red (or equivalent) cvore to pin 3. Job done.
Bryson
Very, very easy. Job done. I had a huge epic argument with someone the other day about that - (It turned out that I had been doing it the wrong way round for years, btw) - until we realised that as long as you make both ends the same, it doesn't really matter too much. Jon T
Thanx for the info guys. We have a PSU for our rainbow scrollers and it has 3pin out on the PSU and I was wondering if we would be able to run them through the PSU????..is this possible?? cheersjon
andystone
It's always worth remembering that the numbering on 3-pin and 5-pin connectors is different, so although you wire pin 1 to 1, 2 to 2 and 3 to 3, check the numbering on the connectors as with 5-pin the pins are numbered clockwise 1,2,3 whereas on the 3-pin they go 1,3,2! Jon T
Anybody got any info on the PSU??? I need to know tonight as we have a get-in tomorow morning! cheersjon
Stu
The PSU should have a male and female 5pin XLR (DMX in and out) and some 4 pin male and female XLRs for the send and returns of the scroller power. Can't think why there would be a 3pin - unless you can feed it 3 or 5pin DMX? The PSUs are listed, and pictured here http://www.rainbow-colour-changers.de/rain...er_supplies.htm Stu
gareth
As Stu says, Rainbow PSUs have 4-pin outs and ins for the scroller loops - I've used pretty much every type of Rainbow PSU going, and I've never come across 3-pin ones. (The only variations I'm aware of is the Strand ColourCall scrollers, which are re-badged Rainbows with 5-pin connectors.)
